Chopper crash just as screen loads

A forum specifically to discuss the latest and greatest of all flight simulators

Whenever I pick a chopper and start free flight at NZMB the chopper is insta crash (as in crashlands) just as the screen loads up after hitting the Fly Now button. This is with a stock Robinson Beta 2
I am using Godzone Supercity and REX2
Same thing happens no matter whether I pick Helipad 1 or 2, or active runway.
If I manage to get it to start Paused, it still crash lands (right on the pad) the second I take it off pause.

I would always recommend turning off crash detection. It just isn't accurate enough for tight spaces.

Ok, will do. Just figured that would take the challenge out of learning to land one of these guys correctly.
Thanks for the reply smile.gif

Yes, hit detection is terrible. Sometimes it says I've crashed when I'm at least 3-4 metres fro mthe building/plane.

I get the same with the super city. there are crash boxes every where, even when fly a low approach around some of the hospitals. this scenery desperately needs a service pack.

As has been pointed out, you really need to turn off crash detection. Sure, we could 'fix' this, but only by turning off crash detection for all the objects. So if there's a switch in FSX which does this anyway, why not use it:)

The problem isn't the way the scenery is designed, it's the way FSX handles crash detection. Some people want to fly as realistically as possible, so they think that crash detection is the only way to go, but what's so realistic about crashing into invisible objects now and again? As I said, the answer could be to turn off crash detection for that particular object, but that's not realistic either.

Does this happen at 1500ft the flight rules around Auckland city ,lol for correctness ,the reason why i don't remove crash boxes that often is that from memory id have to clone the object, so there will be double the faces because the one object with the removed crash boxes disappears and the the other clone shows the object, you end up double the faces but the same scenery
If this scenery was bad on flps id have no fix for it ,though lucky for you its only a tick box ,and if you go to any site on flying helicopters in the sim they will tell you turn off crash settings " microsoft bug "

honestly i havent had to do one fix/patch on this scenery since it went on sale nearly a year ago ,i cant say the same of other payware products with patches from Nam etc etc ..

I dont know why i never though of turning of crash detection before. I fly alot of heli and never encoutered those problems before but when I think about it, ive never had scenery with so many heliports in it, ive just taken of from regular aiports etc.
When you think about it, whats realistic about flightsimulators crash detection when it has no crash effects? nothing
