Will be up there for 3 or 4 hours on Wednesday but the weather doesnt look that good.
Doubt that I will be doing Air 2 Air with the Aussies but that doesnt worry me as its great just to see these machines here.
Am covering the exercise for Australian Aviation and some nice take off and landing shots would be great.
The Blackhawk is a very impressive aircraft in the air and today was the first time I had actually seen one.

By the way the Blackhawks belong to the Army, not the RAAF.

You reckon they are like side by side ,one facing forward and the other the other way so they can fit ,the c17 has a fat hull but i cant see how they would fit length ways nose to tail as the c17 is short ,pretty good packing if you ask me ..

looking at a picture in the Press of one of the Blackhawks being unloaded, and the one closest the to the cockpit it put it nose first, and the send one is put in tail first so i guess the tails are side by side

Black Hawks swoop in on Marlborough

Four-bladed, twin-engined S-70A Black Hawk helicopters have swooped on Marlborough.

The military aircraft and 67 personnel from the Aviation Brigade of the Australian Army are taking part in exercise Anzac Rotor, which focuses on training in New Zealand's rugged mountain ranges.

Three of the helicopters arrived at Base Woodbourne at the weekend after they were transported to Christchurch on a C-17 Globemaster. Another is expected to arrive in the region today.

An Australian Army spokeswoman said the helicopters and personnel flew into Christchurch International Airport because they had to clear customs and Base Woodbourne's runway was not big enough for the C-17 to land.

The Aviation Brigade contingent commander, who is not allowed to be named, said New Zealand's high mountain ranges offered training not available in Australia.

Exercise Anzac Rotor would start winding down on July 25 and the last personnel would head home on July 28, he said.
