Does anyone actually use the sim to "fly"?

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Holy thread dredge Batman!

Anyhow, I must get back into the sim ... Lawrie's foray into FSX and VLC on the horizon has inpired me again, so much so I even reinstalled to get back to basics for VLC lol

Actually I have done a lot flying lately exploring my PNW Orbx scenery (its summer over there and its great flying weather and theres a lot to explore winkyy.gif ) ..I'll be back in NZ when VLC is released.

Paul, i think your short reply says it all. "I'll be back in NZ when VLC is released.".........I dont want to sound like some hippie kind of person....but that little phrase, sums up the whole
'sim" thing (for me).......arghh....i dont think this is the place to get into it....but its just amazing , what this hobby !! has done to the world....
I have a friend near Moscow....a simmer....he has never been out of his region....but he knows what Christchurch looks like....he's landed on 029 in a 20kt nor wester......Naki's away exploreing the pacific north west...waiting for someone to "create" NZ .......i think its amazing....we take a lot for granted.

When i remember that funny little cessna, flying around all those square clouds....back in f/s whatever...........i remain greatful to all of you who are pushing this hobby forward.......

Wow.....getting a bit heavy......

I used to be a tweaker/ moder. After doing it for years, I know what works for me and what does not. You have to have a plan when you hop in the cockpit. Just powering up and flying around aimlessly will have you boared in no time. I create flight plans using Google earth and G-plan and stick to them and I feel like Ive accomplished somthing when I arrive at my destination with reserve fuel in the tanks and I hav'nt gotten lost( does'nt happen all the time.)
I'm another guilty simmer who has crossed the ditch for my love of VFR flying. i'm currently touring Orbx Aussie. Started in Melbourne and am now in Perth landing in every OzX rural strip thats in my path. I've got over 30hrs logged on the Carenado Bonanza. I use REX and its real time weather, I've flown through some real crappy weather and endless crosswind landings and although Aus is rediculously flat there is also some real area's of interest and some awsome rural/private airfields. I hav'nt done the PNW thing yet but I know it will be awsome and i will definately come back home as soon as VLC is released. It will be good to have the Auzzie thing done and dusted, that way I wont have to spend endless freakin hrs installing it all, every time I reinstall windows, which buy the way is not that often, but a recent number of upgrades has forced me to do this and I can asure you that once is enough thats for sure. Happy flying everyone.

G'day All,

With me tweaking is short for, "I'll probably stuff this all up "

Guess I have been lucky, with a mid spec machine I just install stuff and it works
(well usually) and anything that cuts into my flying time, is a big no no .

I don't go chasing FPS like some do, I am happy with a stable 20-25.

AND I don,t enjoy flying alone or at high altitude, preferring the low & slow stuff.

So around OZ and PNW, its FTX and the OZx small freeware fields that keep me amused.

So multiplayer ( how smooth is that in FSX !! ) is my big fix, I usually host and have
between 8-10 online, which is a real buzz.

Only prob is that being in WA, when I start flying after 1800 its 2200 or later in NZ, and its shut for the night.

But tweaking, no, sorry..pass

Cheers

Hi Folks,

I actually have got into 'just' flying again since the FS2Crew Voice Commander series was released. It really brings the Wilco 737 and Level-D 767 to life!

I know a few others that spend more time tweaking with FS than they do flying, but not me, I guess Im so immersed in the simulation I enjoy it so much. With addons like triple head to go and track ir as well as busy virtual cockpits like level D and pmdg 744 in busy vatsim atc enviroments (especially in the USA) TIME JUST FLIES! biggrin.gif

With FS2004, I tried every tweak I could find, until one day I decided it was 'finished', and I was happy with it. Then FSX came along. I guess I'm doing the same thing with FSX, so hopefully one day I'll get it to the point where I can happily just fly.

I have just got a new computer so I am kinda getting back in to simming after a wee while out of it. Anything new since I have been away?
