Asburton Aviation Museum

I recently dropped in to the Ashburton Aviation museum. I was hoping to be able to take panoramic photographs inside the cockpits of some of the planes but unfortunately was told that it was no longer possible to have access to the cockpits because of people stealing equipment. That really annoys me when some peoples selfish behaviour ruins things for the rest of us.

Anyway, enough ranting. I took the opportunity to take a couple of 360x180 panoramas showing the aircraft in the two hangars. For those interested the links are:

They do look better full screen size, you can click and drag your mouse to move around and view in which ever direction you choose.

Excuse the graininess of the second one, this was caused by the low light level and my need to keep exposure times shorter than I would normally do.

Very good - nice clear, sharp, detailed image. Scrolling gave me a bit of vertigo, but otherwise great!

Scaber....i know what you mean....we (Air force museum) have had that problem.......bristol freighter, vampire and Mossy......Ashburton is a great little museum....and soon will have a Meteor as well, nice shots.......

You obviously need to spend more time practicing your spins - that will see you right!!

Yes - unfortunately that's why I'm NOT a real pilot - seem to get nauseous a bit too readily when it gets bumpy or "spinney"...

The photos are on my website to show what sort of work I can produce and also because I find them interesting to view and explore,

I went down there because I had heard that the cockpits of the aircraft were accessible and I would therefore be able to make some of these panoramas to show the interior of the cockpit from the pilots eye view. I was disappointed to find that I was unable to do this but still thought that it would be worthwhile taking panoramas to show their hangar displays.

If any of you know some one who could get me into the cockpits of some interesting aircraft I would appreciate being contacted about it :-)

Since the obvious change , there were two cockpits , a Canberra and a DC-3 that you could have got into , wonder if it was the day ? rather than going to far , Both Wigram and Ferrymead would be a start but arrive buy appointment .

Yes, I have thought about them - though the Wigram one is very dark and consequently would require quite long exposure times. It would be nice to know who to approach about these but I guess I can go out there and ask whoever is on duty.
