Glad to hear from our main Christchurch contingent smile.gif

I've just been called by my boss and told that I'll be in your neck of the woods by Weds for a few weeks looking at damage, and would love to catch up with some of you guys if possible biggrin.gif

Sounds like a plan ZK thumbup1.gif

Had our power out from about 4:30am (after the little shake after the big one), power came back on at around 11am. Went for a sleep in the car in the meantime, decided it was the safest place to be. No visual damage on the house (except for a big crack in the front that has been there long before the quake) hopefully we're still watertight. Conserving water here, been told the Papanui water resevoir has a crack in it.

As for those looters I heard about, chuck them out of the country.

You don't have to write them all down just go to http://www.geonet.org.nz/earthquake/quakes...ent_quakes.html
They are all there for you and the size of each one is there too

Its not looking too god for you guys tomorrow.
High wind on the way, maybe a frost in the morning, and they say there is still a 6 or so magnitude aftershock to come.

Im just so glad this happened at such a dead time. Looking at those pics of the CBD, if it happened lunchtime or some other busy time, it would have been a lot worse that 2 people injured.

Take care guys

Glad all the NZFFers made it through OK, just looking at the model airtrainer I wonder how the RNZAF museum aircraft faired, esp those hanging in the atrium and elevated elsewhere and in the resto hanger :-o

Ill find out shortly .. things dangling from roof (tons of copper) and entire lines and danger in a plant in an aged building , may have been early morn but there was a shift running so that will be interesting to walk into .

If you put this ref into google earth -43° 31' 48.00", +172° 7' 12.00" it shows the epi centre...but look at the odd paddock arrangement.......could it be ..crop wedges !!

Ha ha who knows, but i thought it was odd, as all the rest of the area is uniform.....or is it just me . tongue.gif

I was rather worried when watching the BBC World coverage - some nasty damages down there!
Glad you all didn't lose your good sense of humour.

One further casualty:
I got wifey rather convinced to move over to NZ once we're retired (some 20 years from now on...), but now she's rather doubtful...

Chin up, mates!
Cheers,
Markus (<- living in a solid seismic region)

"The country experiences more than 14,000 earthquakes a year, of which only around 20 have a magnitude in excess of 5.0.".

Don't give up on it yet Markus, if this carries on there could be a lot of very cheap real estate to be had.

Said he reporting from almost within site of the volcanically active White Island....???
