Hey guys.

Trying to install X on the the pc and it simply won't, The installer just hangs around the 0201/202 scenery folders. It has only gotten past this point once where it hung on telluride_25.wav in the missions folders. It won't even get to the second disk. Has anyone else had this issue or know of a fix?

Cheers

Got some details for us? CPU, RAM, HDD, OS? Had any other probs? Tried cleaning the install DVD? Defragged the HDD it's going onto?

Other things that will cause probs:
- Errors on HDD: chkdsk /p
- RAM errors: MemTest 1.7
- AV: AVG is a bit of a pig - if you've got it, uninstall it & use Avast instead. Ditto for any of the payware ones like Trend, McAfee, Norton
- Registry errors: get a good registry checker
- Fragmented registry: get a good reg defragger
- Your optical drive could be on it's way out or have grit on the lens

Let us know so we can help more

I'd put money on Norton at this stage. It's very intrusive. At the very least, switch it off during install & let us know if that helps. Presumably you ran the installer as Admin?

Owen , Requires least a 15GB Hard drive space at least .. think the PC , its searching room to place it , your RAM is also very min , could be the part off the answer .

No problem there , plenty of space , did you have a spare HD you can install on to , I clean HD would also work wonders with FSX operation .

Can you think of anything that you've installed recently that might be the culprit? Also, after the failed installs, I presume you're manually deleting the folder that might be left in Program Files? Also, you may need to manually edit the registry to remove any relevant entries.

Sorry I can't be super helpful, but these things always end up being a real "detective hunt" trying to run down various symptoms or possible causes.

If you can get your hands on a spare HDD - even on loan - I'd be inclined to try an install onto that. However, it still sounds software-related, and I wouldn't rule Norton out. Although it may sound like blasphemy, you could uninstall Norton completely & try installing with no AV to see if that works. You'll need to do a restart & download the Norton uninstaller tool & run that after the reboot, as Norton leaves all sorts of poo behind & tweaked settings.

See how you go & keep us posted.

EDIT: Had to laugh at the forum system that "bleeped" my use of the word c r a p and put in "darnation"! laugh.gif I changed it to "poo" instead... harhar.gif

For technical reasons that I won't go into, I recently did a re-install of FSX and had a similar problem. A fellow "simmer" popped round with his FSX discs
and the re-install went in perfectly. There appears to be a few fingerprints and marks on my discs - possibly the problem. I know the feeling of sitting
there waiting for the install to get to a certain point and wondering if it'll get passed the danger point. If you have access to another similar set may be worth a try..?
