New Aircraft Seat Design

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Postby happytraveller » Sat Sep 11, 2010 12:24 pm

Saw this bit of news today about the new design of aircraft seats. Lots of comments about the proposed/suggested Ryanair 'standing' seats, but this is the half way stage. Looks very uncomfortable to me and I am sure that it will not be trialed in business or first class!!.

Does anybody remember the romance of travel?

smooth landings.

Because all buses and trains are standing room only for trips that may take 30 minutes? Ummm, no. 30 minutes in an aeroplane would get you to the runway, and very little further. Imagine airpockets - something trains and buses don't have to worry about. Remember the Qantas plane that dropped all those feet? Imagine if that had of been standing room only. Would of been a blood bath.

The train that I catch to work won't allow you to stand up in the aisles, and that is for an hour and 10 minutes trip.
When asked what I have contributed to on this earth my reply will be my daugther

I wouldn't panic, this is highly unlikely to ever happen. Ryanair's Michael O'Leary has been talking up this concept for ages to gain publicity. But in their case the 73H is certified to a maximum of 189 passengers and currently all Ryanair aircraft seat 189. The only advantage of this concept is to gain media attention.

But if by some miracle Boeing or Airbus manage to gain certification for more passengers if they let them stand (pigs have a higher likely-hood of flying) then I have no doubt that this concept will take-off, no pun intended. After all the 'Romance of Travel' was killed by the passenger as his wallet and not by the airlines happy.gif
