For all you Christchurch guys and girls I hope this helps you to understand what is going on in your part of New Zealand

A little different way of explaining and actually seeing the mechanics of earthquakes that I know you can appreciate.

A little Engineer's refresher course.

Earthquake explained so you can remember

What's the difference between an oscillatory and a trepidatory earthquake?

1. This calculation is just for engineers:

2. And this one is for ignorants --like you and me [MOD: may not be safe for work or young eyes]:
This is a trepidatory earthquake:

This is an oscillatory earthquake:
http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/oo106/dbcunnz/Pic2.gif

And this is a combination of both: (trepidatory and oscillatory)

Science is beautiful when it is well explained...

. . . and now you know.

Doug

[MOD: I've removed the embedded pics, but left the links. Note: I'm not being a prude, but these pics are not entirely appropriate, I think this is a suitable compromise]

Reason: Not entirely appropriate... I think this solution is a happy medium

Haha, I wish my lecturers would use such practical examples!

Although I did have to take my time to stare at and work out the second explanation....

Hi

I don't get it. All I see is "This image or video violated our terms of use - photobucket"

Maybe you could embed the images?

Hi Murray they where embedded but it has been modified by one of the NZFF moderators and fair enough as someone had put in a complaint.
It also seems that photobucket has deemed the third image of rotating breasts although they are in a bra as not suitable and have deleted it which is a pity.

Message from the moderator
Just a friendly headsup... I've modded your earthquake post to remove the embedded pics of bouncy boobies... I've left the links to the pics there, so people can see view if they wish... but now it's not quite so "in your face" winkyy.gif

Please realise that I'm not being a prude, I actually thought it was a very humourous post, and explains the topic well smile.gif but they could be deemed by some to be unsuitable for our "family friendly" forum... and indeed it would appear they have, as I have received a complaint...

It's a shame some people find this sort of thing offensive, but thems the breaks I guess sad.gif

You can view the first two images, but the third one obviously was a bit too offensive to be hosted on photobucket.

The third one was banned because you can see a bit of nipple I think. If you really want to find it just google a bit...took me a minute to find them biggrin.gif

I have uploaded the third one to another host site so is working again for now

Don't worry about it Ian apparently photobucket didn't like one of the pics either so put it on another image host site see if they blat it or not but HC could see the humorous side of it too and had no problems apart from one complaint anyway all good.
