The museum / RNZAF were gifted a Corsair by the Disney corporation for their asistance in making the movie 'The Rescue' back in the 1980's. Unfortunately it was a very late model of the corsair - F4U-5N Korean war vintage. It would have been a waste of a good aircraft to try and convert it back to an earlier model, so it was swapped for the partially restored P40 we see in these photos. The restoration that had been done to the P40 prior to the RNZAF recieving it was pretty average. Looks alot better now.
