Will these (both) need "acceleration"?

I suspected I was having a lot of FSX CTDs when I had it on, so left it off when I reinstalled. My FSX is now pretty stable - despite maxing just about everything out.

Is it worth the risk in adding acceleration? Can it be easily removed (without totally stuffing up FSX)?

Hi Adam if you install Acceleration it will uninstall the server packs and over write FSX so if you want to remove it you will have to install FSX again I am using accelerator and have had no problems with it it is virtually the same as when I had FSX SP2.

Yes sorry you will need Acceleration. You probably could fly the Etendard without Acceleration but you will need it for the carrier & carrier landings and launching.

Doug, Paul - thanks for the info. I think I may hold off with acceleration after all - on the grounds of "if it ain't broke ..." winkyy.gif

You're surely not running a vanilla FSX??
Accel really does address some major issues.

Also, If like me you are a gear fetishist, do not miss the main gear wheel wells of this model...
VC too. Along with Dino C's models for FSX, topnotch.

Charl - you've got me intrigued now ;-)

I have FSX + SP1 + SP2 ... what issues does Acceleration fix beyond SP2? My gut feeling (laugh.gif) is that Acceleration intoduces more issues than it fixes ... but that may be because my old FSX+Acceleration system was just too overloaded with other crud.

Is it OK to install Acceleration over SP2? I'm so terrified of messing with my FSX when it's actually behaving itself!

Marty - I don't think it's downloadable anywhere (though I'm often wrong winkyy.gif) ... mine was part of the "Deluxe" version of FSX.

It doesn't fix anything after SP2, just adds new aircraft, catapualts and traps on aircraft carriers and some other scenery (I think biggrin.gif )and you can install it over SP2.

Adam I misunderstood your setup, didn't realise you had SP2 in.
My personal experience was to uninstall FSX, reinstall, then add Acceleration.
Many of the issues I then had before were improved.
But you should do it, just for the carriers (it's all I do in FSX anyway!)

Yeah I bought mine in a box.
It was just MS trying to recoup some of their overspend on fixing the original issue, plus you got some extra goodies.

Adam....my install is also the Deluxe edition. But i dont appear to have the "acceleration'' ......its fine, i dont do carrier stuff, and Ive just got the sim back in after the big crash....so I'll leave it as it is....works for me.

Thanks to you too KC

During the installing of Acceleration it will uninstall SP2 or ask you to uninstall it at the start of the install but it didn't mess anything up with my FSX when I did mine everything worked just the same after the install.

Hey Marty
As far as I am aware, FSX Gold has Acceleration "bundled", but Deluxe doesn't. Microsoft's motives aside, Acceleration is a separately-sold boxed item. It would probably be cheaper to sell your Deluxe version on TM & buy the Gold one instead. Supply of Acceleration is patchy, at best - my supplier is expecting a small amount of stock next week, but they have got into a habit lately of going 3-4 weeks with no stock...
Cheers

Marty ... I *lied* laugh.gif. I've just looked at my shelf ... sat there next to my Deluxe Box is a totally separate "Acceleration" box ... which I just can't remember buying! Sigh ... "hide your own Easter eggs time" I think sad.gif Now, where's that Zimmer frame ...

For the sake of just carrier landings, I think I'll leave it on the shelf. I tried them once (when I did have Acceleration installed) and was spectacularly unimpressed. The word "Noddy" springs to mind laugh.gif ... after having done carrier landings in LOMAC etc.

I think I'll just let FSX do what it does well ... and leave combat orientated stuff to the sims that are designed for it.

Islandboy: You're quite right. I was confusing "Deluxe" with "Gold".
