Just sharing my happiness

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby gojozoom » Thu Oct 28, 2010 2:50 pm

Hi guys,

This is a great day for me!

Some of you probably knows that I have FS2004 runing on a low end laptop. I've never had the chance to fly on a high end system in my last 5 years of simming.
This is changed now. I just purchased a HP Pavilion PHE-185a! From today, I'm a proud member of the FSX club (hence the post icon)!!! A whole new world opened for me, and I'm pretty excited about it - obviously.
I know that a lot of gamers say that this system is still a lower end PC, and they make me shout : HEY GUYS, WHAT`S ENOUGH FOR YOU? I think that a Intel i7 CPU, 6 GB RAM and a "decent" GeForce card should be just good enough for FSX...especially after playing FS2004 on laptop with integrated graphics smile.gif

Please don't get me wrong, I didn't write this to rant about my new system. Just wanted to share my excitement!

And now, I have to go and tweak the hell out of it.... clapping.gif

Thanks for reading smile.gif

Use your laptop for running your weather engine (REX or Active sky) and your comms.
Remember the 50-50-90 rule. Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong!

laugh.gif Nice one, marty! You realise, of course, that we techs deliberately spray all new computer builds with that smell. We get it in cans from the same place that makes the "new car smell" and "new carpet smell" products... tongue.gif

Thanks guy,

Unfortunately I won't be able to get any use out of my old laptop, as it's motherboard was toasted. That was the main reason for the replacement...and that I hate laptops in general..If you're not a traveling agent you don't need one. smile.gif

Also, I found this pretty serious-looking thread for optimizing FSX/Windows 7. have a looky!

Yep most of us FSXers have been there and done that. Most of the old teaks benefit older systems and pre SP2/Acceleration installations. However following the installation guide in that forum is very important. Give your PC a good degrag after too. (and not using windows tools, it will take a month and a half) Good defrag utilities reduce it to minutes. I recomend to use the buffer pools tweak put out there buy Jesus someone or rather. and also the autogen tweak. both make a difference on my i7.

eh...how does that work? Comms is obvious but REX?? Dynamically? I dont have it but have been considering obtaining it...but assumed that like other add-ons, it had to be accessed from within FS? I'm missing something.. (well it is Friday!)
