No, not the 747 over Sakhalin, this was a 707 well off course which came down in a hurry after Soviet fighter planes shot the end of one wing off near Karelia in deepest Russia five years prior to that one. I suppose everyone needs a hobby - some people take photos, some people do flight simming, some people breed orchids, some people shoot down KAL Boeings ...

The article says the plane was stripped right down to component parts and taken away for study, were there any 707-like russian airliners from the early 80's ?
