Custom FSX keyboard

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

Postby gojozoom » Wed Dec 01, 2010 6:47 pm

Hi guys,

I just thought I would upload a picture of my amateur DIY custom keyboard I made for FSX. It's nothing fancy, but it's one more step towards realism. If you're interested in the layout I'm happy to send the doc file I created in a PM.

All the best.

Dan

It doesn't have to be fancy to add alot of realism though - I bet when you're flying it feels a lot more natural and really immersive!! I remember when my home cockpit was in the design stages and I had screws sticking out of bits of cardboard to help figure out where I wanted to put everything!! tongue.gif I hope you don't mind me hijacking your thread - here's some links for others thinking about following in your footsteps........ the guy has some interesting and inovative ideas for cockpit builders on a budget!!

Just do a search on YouTube or WorldFilmGuide.com for 'DIYFLIGHTSIMS.COM' or 'Roger Dodger' for some more inspiration........

Cheers,
Mat

Oh MAN!! I just saw this video of his and I'm going to HAVE to try it next year. We're moving into a smaller house which we'll be renovating so the home cockpit will have to be packed away until we're finished.......... but I think this could be a way to keep my simming bug at bay!! What do you think!!

I forgot to mention that the idea is not mine, so the credit goes to those DIYflightsims guys.

Regardless of the inspiration it takes motivation to actually get anything done!! All of our keyboards at work have custom function keys. If anyone wanted to take this idea a step further you could take this approach with printed custom keycaps. I don't know where in NZ you'd have it done (I could ask the techs at work if anyone was interested). I did find this link to an outfit in the states....... I'm thinking about making my own CDU and these ideas could be a feasible solution!!
