2m Wellington freeware mesh now available

Information and support relating to this forthcoming New Zealand Vector Land Class addon.

Postby Timmo » Tue Nov 02, 2010 7:58 pm

The current situation in regards to councils making their data more available seems to be changing every month after a lot more central government encouragement. One such example is Wellington City Council making their LiDaR derived contours available for free. I've converted these into a 2m mesh which is now available from the VLC website

This mesh will look better under a photoreal base (such as RealNZ Wellington) but can be used with the default method of terrain rendering as well (either default landclass or VLC)

Download from here: VLC Downloads

Cheers

Yep, that's the go. Big thanks to the WN council for this. Now, if the others would follow suit... drool.gif

Yeah, this is great - kudos to the WCC, and to Tim for doing the work to get it into FSX.

BUT...

Something that really bugs me is when you've got this great resolution mesh that for some reason seems to NOT include one of the harbour's most obvious features - Somes Island...
Whats with that? It's really jarring when you're flying in to join the circuit and the harbour has this inexplicible flat green patch in the middle of it...

DISCLAIMER: I've only seen screenshots of this mesh in use, so if I've got it wrong, someone tell me and I'll disappear back off to Fallout New Vegas land again! smile.gif

Mark , you may want to adjust your 'Mesh' settings to 2 meters .

Cheers Ian, and thanks for the correction! biggrin.gif

I was checking this out and had a bit of a WTH moment...check this out....I was a tad hard on the ol' Merlin, and while I managed to get it down in one piece, albeit with a bit of smoke and oil...looks like NZWN has a new addition to it's garage of emergency vehicles! When ATC said they'd have everthing on standby I didn't realise they meant it LITERALLY! biggrin.gif

Timmo! Many thanks for the NZWN mesh update. It sorted quite a few elevation problems around the airport for me ... great!!

The archive I grabbed off the VLC site has just one .bgl file in it. No mention (or plug) of VLC, the VLC site - or even who to thank!!!

So ... to whoever ... many thanks!!! thumbup1.gif clapping.gif
