Thought i would add the new repaint and go for screen session......anyway, normal start.....no slewing (Ian) ...normal climb out, but once i passed 10,000ft.....both darts shut down!!
Fuel heaters were on (i know thats been an issue in the past with this a/c)......couldnt restart them....any ideas team?? Ive been flying this since Rick first released it and never had this before....maybe Im tired and missed something.
Anyway....beautiful paint Wildbill....sorry i broke it sad.gif on my first trip....................

Yes fuel heaters is the usual culprit. Did you have the power plant anti ice on?
Remember the 50-50-90 rule. Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong!

Was that the FS9 or FSX model? I have the FSX flavour, so might give it a high-altitude test flight.

Adam , the best thing with Rick Pipers freeware fleet they all prity much work both sims without a problem .

Yep - agreed - I was just wondering about this "cut-out" bug. It seems to happen to certain aircraft - FS9 or FSX. I think it may be related to a battery drain bug. FSUIPC has a parameter to try to get round that.

Here's my test flight (at just over 10k):

Did you have *fuel heaters* set to ON?

UPDATE: I put FSX into pause mode (to upload the pics) ... and then found the engines stopped just after un-pausing. Same as you - couldn't get them restarted, no matter what.

I had that problem myself once flying on VATNZ *blush
Best cure for that is read the manual winkyy.gif It's all to do with what settings to have for a given outside air temperature etc. There are charts to follow in the manual for the correct settings (been a while since I've flown it)

I don't think it's that, Alister. My flight worked perfectly (for ages) until I happened to pause FSX. Before that, I basically turned everything that said "ICE" or "HEATER" to *on* laugh.gif.

If you do a search, you'll find plenty of threads about certain FS processes that appear to time out after a period of time. I do remember battery drain being one of them. It feels like a bug to me winkyy.gif.

That's an interesting thought, and certainly not one I have tested. It certainly does seem to have a problem with pausing though as you have pointed out!
This part in the manual spoke volumes to me in fixing my flame out problems:

The PUDs should be selected to fast when the outside air temperature falls below +10’C and to slow in temperatures below -6’C.
Note that the system has been arranged such that engine flame out may occur if the deicing equipment is not used correctly in icing conditions.


That combined with proper fuel trimming (chart in cockpit)
Anyway, have fun, she's a great aircraft.

Here's a fix that *may* help. Find the right aircraft.cfg file:

[electrical]
;BusType, MaxAmpLoad, MinVoltage ;BusTypes:0=MainBus,1=AvionicsBus,2=BatteryBus,3=HotBatteryBus,4-7=Generator/AlternatorBus(1-4)

electrical_always_on = 1

You may need to ADD this line if it doesn't exist.

I assume that you put the Alternators to the start position before placing to RUN? Like me the alternators need to be excited first before they do anything. This energises the field circuit and then the alternator can provide the wild AC to power the Powerplant anti ice.
Are you also setting climb power after TO? Maintaining TO power will cook the engines.
Are you also following the checklists? Each item should have a green tick against when actioned correctly

Besides the possible icing issues, I'd take the guess you forgot to start your generators (28VDC supply) and sucked your batteries dry!
Although the engines are running when starting a flight, some important toggles have to be thrown prior to bringing up this baby.

The thing I love most on Rick's 748 (apart from the smooth model and the graceful handling) is its reasonable system-depth:

Thanks for all the input guys.....this is the only aircraft in my hanger that i do fly by the book, and have done for years....so i dont know what i did. As i said, i was tired and must have missed something....sorry to start a non event thread....but some good info came out of it.
