Somethng different - My rc Tricopter build

A forum for everything else that does not fit into the other categories

My first attempt at a Tricopter build...

My diy machine - 450mm aluminium arms with 80gram 1000Kv motors. It uses three HK401B gyros - one per arm controlling the esc / throttle of each motor. JR770 gyro controlling the tilt tail servo for the pirouette control. 3lbs flying weight, 1350 grams.

The arms fold so it is transported easily.

It will be going on a diet to shed a little weight. I have doubled-up on the batteries to get the balance / c-o-g correct. I need to make a "pretty" battery mount on the front that will carry one 2650mA 3S lipo pack. The mount will also have my Gopro video camera attached.

I am hoping to make this my night flyer, and fit it with a camera downlink for fpv (first-person-view) flying. That is where you sit on the ground wearing goggles looking from the model...

Thanks. The tri is for fun and should have the Gopro HD cam on it by the end of the week...

Due to my full-time job getting too busy, I am shutting down the commercial aerial shooting side of the business. I'll still shoot for fun, airshows and time-lapse projects but I simply don't have the time to market and shoot aerials any more.
I'm going to put the heli / mount / ground screen on the market soon when I get a chance. It is easiest to shoot two-up but I have a stabilization system installed that holds the heli steady while shooting solo.

Being entirely diy, it has been a blast but there are only so many hours in the day...

Pete

Looks like a lotta fun...
I've had my eye on one of those quadricopters for some time.
Meantime I've been practising!
I now only write them off twice a month, this I feel is progress.

Yeah, I've noticed that too. But I bet even if we had 48 (and could stay awake without going nuts), we'd just fill those up as well! laugh.gif
