DC-8 evolution

This has to one of the most beautiful aircraft ever built....and like the 707 just keeps going.

Started here in 1958 , "Ship one" 50 series 150feet long. Odd for an airliner , but this one had fuselage mounted speed brakes and wing spoilers.



ANZ had a few of the 50's



Then they built longer and longer versions, eventually ending with the 73 series, a lot are still around as freight dogs.

Good choice Marty , Douglas DC-8 could also be known as the first jet airliner to go Supersonic - held many record for time , the Convair/General Dynamics 880/990 series were faster in service but they come later , our DC-8s were an equal for the 707 and of course do any recall the beauty little model that come with WEET-BIX cereal box from the mid 1960s .

Cheers again Ian...i looked at doing something with the Covair, but its never really done much for me.....and yes i do remember the model....wow, that took me back a few years

DC-8..was lucky enough to get into the cockpit of a DC-8 enroute to Nadi...came back on a 10 though.

I only wish food company,s did the same promotion s but today,s world is grab and forget , i STILL remember that gray DC-8 , 40 plus years it was good !

Paul , now your trying me , both the 8 and 10 , i flew into NZCH in 1980 on the 10 , a Norhtwester - frankly i think i could do it better today due my FS training
