Post and comment on screen captures from the beautiful game here. Home of the monthly screenshot competition

I wasn't pointing any fingers ,was simply answering a question and rule i thought was still in place and relevant ,to my amusement Rob said he doesnt like the rule and pulled it from the comp laugh.gif ,though i still see them guidelines posted at the top i complained about in topic ,just winding you up though if you left the rule about voting for yourself ,then i wouldnt have to explain about it here and Marty Adamski wouldnt of had the discussion in the first place ,if there are rule changes maybe you should tell everyone so we dont feel like fools..

I knew you'd find that funny:)
In splitpin's defence, I'm not aware that this rule is still in effect -- and it wouldn't be known to any new members over the last few months. The rules for each round of voting is normally posted with the poll, which would have made them applicable to that particular comp. I didn't 'change the rules', but sometimes I did refine the way the comp worked to try and increase the interest. A record number of entries this month may or may not be one of the results. One of the goals of the comp has always been to have fun, a bit of harmless competition.

Seems like nobody's taking things personally here after all winkyy.gif ... just discussing the rules "in the abstract" biggrin.gif

So, in that vein ... Rob/Doug ... purely as a matter of interest ... is there actually a setting in admin for disallowing votes (for a logged in member to his own entry)? It may even be a bit of a moot point - as it's hardly likely to happen often, being as NZFFers aren't really like that ... and Marty's thing was just a joke anyway.

I have to add ... I always really enjoy these competitions and I'm glad things seem to have "perked up" a bit lately - for whatever reason. I'm also really looking forward to *next* month!

The way things stand at the moment, there's no way to do this, as this is basically just a standard poll -- there's no way to tie a user to a specific choice. The only way to do this would be to take email votes, which some forums do, but that may take a bit of the fun out of the process....

Ah yes very light hearted from me , I think ive been a member to long here and sometimes think very in the past and not the present or just fail to notice changes to the daily running,s of the forums .

It makes sense that the currents rules stay the same "ie vote for whoever /self "doesnt matter as long as its fun and fair which it is both WIN WIN ..
Good luck to all ..

OK at the moment there is not rule to stop members voting on their own screen shot and at this stage I am not going to bring one in for as you all know rules can be broken but however if there was a way to bloke a member from voting on their own entry then yes I would use it.
Having said that the whole idea of the screen shot competition is to find the best screen shot for the month not to find out how many friend you can find to vote for you.
Also in future posting quotes on here indicating screenies where the voting is close and giving hints on where to vote will get deleted, as it is now anyone can go in and see the results before they vote.
As Rob said its a fun thing and we don't want it bogged down with a whole lot of rules all I ask is the members play the game fairly and vote for the one they think is the best for the month.
What I would ask is for all members to have a vote for the one they think is the best screenshot for the month whether they have an entry in or not don't just go and have a look vote while you are there looking.

In most cases the best shot wins anyway ...not always the one I vote for but 99% of the time it tends to be a good one that gets the banner

What can I say, but ... DAKa-DAKa-DAKa-DAKa-DAKa-DAKa-DAKa laugh.gif ... maybe I should've used the C-47 Gunship, then I could shoot that annoying (competing) Moth down smile.gif

Well I've got a P-40 in my screen we could use dry.gif biggrin.gif .

Speeking of P-40's shooting, were you at Warbirds Over Wanaka 2008, with the P-40 firing blanks as it did a flyby? An amazing sight and sound. smile.gif

No ... sadly I've yet to make it to Wanaka sad.gif ... however ... there was an event at Mission Bay (AKL) a year or so ago with Harvards dressed as Zeros being "shot down" by our two P-40s. It was a publicity stunt for some TV series (I forget which - as I never bothered to watch it!!).
