What aircraft are you trying to take out of FSX?

Well ... I don't think there's an easy "catch all" answer to this.
Some aircraft come with self-installers. These can be removed by the usual Windows Control Panel procedure ... but I'm always a bit leery of those in case they remove effects/sound etc. that may be being shared with other aircraft. In some cases, these don't even uninstall properly anyway - I've heard some even stuff up FSX because of a badly written uninstall script.
I find the *safest* way to be to simply remove (or move) the relevant directories from simobjects/aircraft. This may leave oodles of redundant effects or sounds, but I'm guessing that they don't do any harm <???> - apart from taking up a bit of disk space - and FSX only calls what it needs, as and when. The other problem with this is that you'll have some "orphaned" entries in your "Programs" Control Panel.
My FSX is now such a humungous beast that I can't just back the whole thing up every time I add/remove a few aircraft.
So my *short* answer is ... I dunno!!!

I just cut the selected aircraft's folder (so the B747_400 folder as an example, not that I'd actually move the default folder of course!) and paste that folder in the Aircraft I don't want folder. Then they no longer take up space on my aircraft menu, but if I want them for any reason they're still there.
Heehee - mines called "The Aircraft Hangar"FS Panel Studio has a 'Gauge Cleaner' that lists and removes unreferenced aircraft gauges.....

Does all this "crud" slow FSX down at all? Or does it just sit there until it's called by something? I know it doesn't help my aircraft/selection menu ... that's been taking progressively longer as I add all these luvverly NZ repaints etc. ... but once in an aircraft ... does it make any difference<??>.Last edited by Adamski on Fri Feb 04, 2011 12:12 pm, edited 1 time in total.
