I think this is in response more to olderndirt ... There's a bit of a paradox (above)
You can't have "realism" - particularly in a high-performance-engine driven fighter *without* all the gadgets - or it just becomes an arcade game. I've often thought the flight models (never mind the engine systems or avionics) in MSFS are often well below par. Few aircraft "fly" like real aircraft.
I've sat in a Spit, but never flown one, so I've no idea, really ... but this A2A Spit is a real corker, believe me. It does also make you appreciate the workload of these early Spit pilots ... in combat.
@Marty. Great shots indeed! Relieved to see you didn't hold out for much longer than me!!! Take a look at the A2A forums - I'm active in some of the support topics ... and there's a great one there about overheating/engine management.
The problem is that we're currently in NZ summer time and, if you have real weather enabled, the outside air temperature can be up to 24c ... pushing it a bit for the early single-radiator Spits. The trick seems to be to get as high as you can (where it's cooler) as soon as you can. I was messing around just doing NZAR-NZWP and rarely went over 4,000ft ... so never really got to cool the engine before landing. Poor old Spit didn't like that at all!!
After a day or two of this Spit, I've found my old fave, the RealAir Spit looking a bit crude.
@scaber. I agree with Marty (for once,!!) ... just get it. Make sure you get the Accusim add-on, though, or it will just be a very pretty plane.
To all others "on the brink" ... try the A2A forums and read what's there. Obviously, there'll be a whole heap of serious "fanboi" stuff there ... but some of the in-depth posts from the developers are amazing. They really have put a lot of effort into this add-on.

Yup, "Just Get It" should be the catch phrase. A few things I'm a little disappointed with, such as the model (would have preferred a Mk V or IX), but that was my gripe with most of their models, such as the early P-40 rather than the more powerful P-40N and the P-47 'Superbolt' with the bubbletop. I would have also preferred a Lockheed Constellation to the Strat as a multi-engined Accusim airliner. My personal preference only, at least the B-17 was a good choice. I am only picky as no-one else makes equivalenty detailed models of these iconic aircraft.
The later 1720 HP Merlin 66 (RM 10SM) of the Mk VIII and IV was the equivalent of the Merlin 266 (Packard) which is used in the P-51D, NOT the 1030 HP Merlin II (RM 1S) of the Mk I or the 1150 HP Merlin XII (RM 3S) of the MkII which is what A2A claimed they developed the Accusim Spit as the testbed for. I wonder if they are going to remodel the Merlin to the later specs? I would hate to speculate that they would omit this detail for the Mustang.
These points aside, the Accusim Spit is a superbly designed simulation, and even for non-warbird fans, I believe it is a must-have for every virtual hangar!

I'm sure I saw references in the A2A forums to a future MkV ... though I'm not sure about the MkIX. If they do at least a MkV, then I expect they'll model the correct engine. Still, the early Spits are the B.O.B. ones ... I just wish they had two radiators!
If they need the later Merlins anyway - for the Mustang - then extending the existing Spitfire choices shouldn't be to difficult, I'd have thought.
Yes ... by the same token ... a 4-Merlin'd Lancaster shouldn't be that hard either!!! Being as the USA is such a huge market, though, I suspect they think they have the bombers already covered with the B-17.

I'm finding it's not so much the oil temperature that's the problem ... the radiator/coolant seems far more sensitive.
I'll check my cruise figures next time, but I seem to remember my radiator temp being around 95 with the cooler one notch from fully closed. I did an Ardmore-Wanaka ferry flight and found it settled down well at 20,000ft. Amazingly, I managed to get there on just the top tank .. can this be right? That's a helluva range.
For those long ferry flights, where you just want to watch the Spit travel through the landscape in outside view, I found the default FSX autopilot seems to work (for heading and altitude) - at least if you've filed a flight plan.
