There's really nothing to suggest that a technique like this gives anyone an advantage -- in fact the opposite is true, generally heavily edited screenshots have less of a show, I think because some people will normally reject heavy editing when they come to vote.

This is a time-tested technique for FS screenshots, and encourages creativity. However as I said, it is rare that a screenshot + photo entry wins. There have been some exceptions, but they needed to be -- and were -- brilliant... (while I was typing this kc made my point!)
Your point is well taken. Anything that wins has to be more than an aircraft superimposed on a photograph - but I still enjoy doing them.

OK if you read rule number (1) The screenshot must be from a Flight Simulator program (FS2004, FSX, X-Plane, etc), and the position of the shot must be somewhere over New Zealand territory.
Rule (5) Editing is allowed to enhance your entry if you know how to do it. The more stunning your shots look the better!
To me that doesn't mean to completely take out the flightsim scenery and replace it with a photo or real scenery or take out the flightsim aircraft and put a photo of a real aircraft.
I take the editing to be a tool to tweak your flightsim screenie and maybe adding one or two small things that make it look better but not take your image outside rule Number(1)
We do not want to bog the competition down with a whole lot of rules.

We have the members choose the winner at the end of each comp. So each member gets to decide then whether they want to vote for a heavily edited shot, or not. Obviously you won't, and in reality a lot of people don't, for similar reasons. So it isn't really necessary to make a ruling on this, each member gets to decide that for themselves at the end of the month. However if a heavily edited image DID win the comp, then I would imagine that the member's choice would mean that they don't mind heavy editing. Seems fair and simple.

Actually ... *I do* ... it's a seriously stunning shot! Talk about "flight of the bumblebee!!". What's that "nozzle" thing on the front (do I really want to know, laugh.gif)?

I understand all that winkyy.gif .... no problem! ... but I still think it's a bit ambiguous. Don't call me Shirley ... just call me ANAL laugh.gif ...

I think (1) could read something like: "The screenshot(s) must be from a Flight Simulator program (FS2004, FSX, X-Plane, etc) but can be overlaid/mixed with other images - real or from a sim. The location must be somewhere over New Zealand territory". <??>.

It's early days yet and the competition is gaining some btu's. IMHO you should bite the bullet and define the Editing rule to include or exclude composite screenshots where part of the shot is not from FS e.g. a photograph. Either way is good for me smile.gif .

Thanks..I forgot to say what it was. I've had the Cresco up for a couple of recent screen shot comps so I decided to change aircaft this time around - it's Tim Conrad's PZL Dromader with a Yago9 repaint.

'A'irbust or Dump Truck , I really do like Russian aviation , so un-conform to western practice , well some may say almost copied , good example is the IL-76 , or the TU95/114 family cool.gif

Hi Dave now the sceenshot competition has started and is part way through I have no intention of altering or changing any of the rules, I know that the editing rule (5) is pretty vague at the moment and changes are needed but if and when changes are made they will be posted at the start of a competition not part way through one.
