Dash 8 Nose Wheel Up Landing Woodbourne Today

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Postby GlennAV8R » Wed Feb 09, 2011 2:06 pm

Just heard a whisper that a Dash 8 just made an emergency landing at Woodbourne with no nose gear. Stopped on Runway and all persons evacuated. Emergency services were on standby for it.

Glenn.

Saw it flying over our place with no nosegear down, so popped down to the airport for a look but didn't see anything. That'll be why!

Its got nothing to do with Woodbourne causing the problem, rather Woodbourne is part of the solution! The Q300 today was diverted from Wellington, because it does not disrupt Wellingtons busy operations and because Woodbourne has Engineering and Hangars to accommodate repairs. The same applies to some of the other wheels up landing that have happened here.

Did anyone think to call INTERNATIONAL RESCUE , , i was lucky to get these photos out

Another fine effort by this secret organization . We could really do with them just down the road , maybe a back shed in Renwick .

I live in Renwick but my shed isn't quite big enough for one of those. And no - I don't have pool or hinged palm trees !! laugh.gif

LOL Ian typical you to post tat lmao..back to the topics guys tongue.gif ....Pleased it landed alright, they have had a few issues with the gear on those things. Suppose the amount of times those wheels go up and down, chances are every now and then something won't go to plan.

What is it with:

A-Dash-8's and their gear (that SAS video comes to mind)
and
B (as soon as I read this, this popped into my mind) Woodbourne. I think your statistically most likely now to make a belly landing if you're flying to woodbourne on a commercial flight laugh.gif

Isn't it evident?? Boeing are my favourite aircraft.

P.S. that's is my real birthday but I wish to keep my real age secret to keep you all pondering.

Yeah I loved that episode. Didn't one of the remote support vehicles blow a tyre or start to lose control at one point, just to add to the suspense.

The reason these all happen at Woodbourne is because there is an excellent maintenance facility there as well as not rendering a major airport closed (in this case wellington) while they remove the disabled aircraft. Generally fuel needs to be burnt off to lower the landing weight so diverting to Woodbourne is really the best option.
Remember the 50-50-90 rule. Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong!

Read my previous comment. These flights were not flying to Woodbourne as destination, they are diverted there because of the gear problems to create less disruption at there destination airports !!

Aye , so you have the 'limited edition lunch tin collectors set ' good on ya , now back to the subject , what about putting swinging palm trees along the Woodbourne runway , i'm not sure how Robin would want to do the animation laugh.gif
