Yes, I can vouch for that -- I've just discovered that you can feel a lot better after a quick wash in the sink using a litre of hot water and a cloth -- luxury! Tomorrow I'll need to go and find some more water (we had quite a good stockpile, but didn't plan for longer than 3 days.) Hopefully the tunnel will be open over the weekend, so I can venture into town for some groceries, and see my son, who has been helping with the 'student army' but has come down with a cold. Luckily my daughter was 'evacuated' to her mum's in North Canterbury, and my other son is safely tucked away in Colombia -- when he left for there a couple of months ago I was very worried that it was quite a dangerous place, who would've thought that it'd be more dangerous here...
Some other small things have made life surprisingly bearable -- the wild blackberries up the hill behind my house are ripening, for instance, which takes car of my fresh fruit cravings. Today the dairy in Lyttelton was open, no 'proper' food for a good meal, but bread and milk, plus I picked up some toffee pops, and ate the entire packet. I was also down to my last squeeze of toothpaste, so I was very pleased to buy the very last toothpaste in the shop:)
I'm astounded at the help offered by other countries, watching the SAR folk from all over on the TV working in the city centre makes me feel a lot better for those who suffered the brunt of the quake.
