Vodafone Broadband data errors

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

Postby deaneb » Wed Apr 13, 2011 2:15 pm

I have just phoned Vodafone for the 3rd time in 5 weeks to contest the data usage they show vs mine. They reckon I've used 3 times more (640MB) than I actually have today already (200MB)!! They can't explain and are investigating. The guy on the help desk admitted the counter sometimes gets it wrong. I asked how it was corrected for their tens of thousands of customers and he could not give me an answer. In short I've done everything I can - changed wireless password to prevent anybody else tapping in (doubtful as we down back section and neighbours (who are away) have broadband as well) Its taken a while to get this far as we kept hitting our monthly 20GB cap. Sure I work from home and upload and download docs to our server, but I watch this closely. So it was either the kids or the wife - unfortunately their general usage was not to blame either.

So I'm awaiting a tech to call me back and explain. In the meantime - if you are a Vodafone customer keep an eye out as I reckon we might just be getting ripped off. If I get no resolution I will be looking at Fair go and/or changing provider. Peeves me off that I was with Ihug since 1997 without any problems, then Vodafone takes them over and screws it all up.

Hi Dean I am like you and been with Ihug for years and now have a cap of 30gb but have not had any problems,
You can get a free very small program to check your usage and you can set it to check right down to every hour.
Traffic usage checker A small program to check your traffic usage with most popular ISPs -- and a few
not so popular ones too!

Just a thought, not sure if it's possible or not but I have heard people nearby being able to tap into your network and use your internet.

Possible - but I've changed the security key. We only have two neighbours withing possible range as we are down a back section, so impossible to get from the road. One neighbour have their own broadband and wireless and are away often, the other neighbours are in their 80"s !! I'm ruling out that possibility.

If you can, try keep off (or turn off) the internet all together for a day and see if it changes.

Yes would be good - maybe the weekend, but because I can only prove its happened on a few days over several months, the likelyhood of striking the right day would be pretty thin. I rely on it for work, so impossible during the week.

Doug it's an executable file which makes me very nervous, and it asks you for your login details!
Apart from breaching your ISP's terms of use, you potentially have given cart blanche to the software to use your account.
I restored my computer to an earlier point after binning it...

I use Netmeter a free beta is somewhere out there which is installed on your op system and keeps track of data usage and you can put a warning cap on it to double track etc ,you can install on all PC in house and total data usage at the end of the month .

NET METER just google it not login or dodgy involved ..
