1st part of Nth Island enhanced airfields

Information and support relating to this forthcoming New Zealand Vector Land Class addon.

Postby dbcunnz » Sat May 07, 2011 8:15 pm

Hi Tim there is a small fix needed for NZTN there is a hedge or windbreak right on the side of the runway which could be removed also it is a bit confusing on the approaches as there are three runways showing.
Another problem with a few of the airfields there are tall trees to close on the approaches making the normal glide slope difficult or impossible in some cases.

High approach to NZTN see high trees just off both ends of runway house to close to end of runway and hedge on left part way down the runway also two other runways showing up.

Cool thanks for that.

The release of 'basic' airfields is something that is a 'test' at this stage as I'm not convinced that using default objects can really give a decent rendition of a kiwi airport....It's also a PITA to develop two parallel airports- You move one thing and you need to move two others.

I have located nothing to comment on with New Plymouth and Whangarei. With respect to Turangi the previous comment about other runways appearing may arise from residue from earlier Turangi scenery projects; I do not see them on the Turangi I have installed nor do I have issues with trees at either end of the runway. The hedge that is mentioned some way down the strip and to one side I do see - but not really as a problem though - incidentally my autogen is set to "very high".

At the southern end of the strip and the associated tarmac I have issues with a number of "pits" [around the base of the windsock and between the threshold and the road] The hanger rear end seems to extend beyond the flat area as does completely the club house behind the tree

OK have found the problem I had the GodzoneTurangi activated so am having a play around with that to see what I can leave in and what to take out.
If you want to leave the GodzoneTurangi activated all you need to take out or disable the file t19.bgl by changing it to t19.bgd and it all works fine.

Hi Timmo

Just finished testing after having problems with my AI traffic for a few days.
All good as far as I can see.If Im fussy I could see a few things.
Ive never been to these APs so not sure what they look like in the flesh.
NZDV-Seems like it could do with a taxiway from runway to parking fueling area.
NZHS-Some buildings not aligned with tarmac.
NZTN-Flatten encroaches road slightly at apron end, Apron parking dips close to runway (potential wheel off the edge if cutting
the corner to position for takeoff)
As I said, never been there so maybe just talking through a hole in my head

Cheers

Nope all good brad- That's good feedback smile.gif

I'll have a look at those issues and see what I can do.

Ive shifted the airport to fit the photo for those that want to use it (or any subsequent releases of this photography for FSX)

I had a thorough test of New Plymouth (Enhanced), and I found no problems. Awesome scenery, thank you!

Ok last test before these get uploaded (finally!)- These ones come with an installer so please test that that works to both install and uninstall correctly.

For non users of VLC, please test that this installs OK too.

Please let me know when you have downloaded and successfully tested so I can release these ASAP.

Cheers

Will comment on install/uninstall later

First three. Dannevirke, Dargaville, and Feilding - Apart from a STOL approach [should you want to touch down right on the threshold] to Dargaville 22 (Sand) everything Gee...orgous

Hastings, Kaikohe, Kaitaia, Turangi, and Waiouru. At Hastings STOL'ish (tree problems) 29 and 18 threshold touchdowns. At Waiouru the perimeter fence crosses the runway at about the 500' marker at the 13 end. Don't see anything else.

Cancel comment on Turangi - redfaced and all that; I had not removed an earlier Waiouru scenery. Nothing wrong with yours

There seems to be a problem (flatten)? at New Plymouth with the large tarmac area in front of the terminal. As aircraft moves across it - moving parallel to the terminal the aircraft periodically sinks about a wheels height into the tarmac (the aircraft shadow disappears) emerges from it (wheels and shadow reappear) and then sinks into the tarmac again. It does this three or four times as the aircraft moves from one end of the tarmac area to the other. I tried it with two different aircraft; The Coben Baby Ace (Addon) and the C208 (Default) with exactly the same result.

Whangarei OK.

On first install, using your installer, when the progress bar was at about 50% a pop up appeared saying "Scenery already exists in the scenery library". Clicked on OK and the installer finished the installation. I had not carried out any earlier installation. The installed programs were those used to do the testing. The uninstaller worked perfectly. When I again ran the installer it performed exactly as before ie the "scenery already exists in the scenery library" message re-appeared

Yep the installer will report that if you have added the South Island pack as they are installed into the same folder (therefore it's already added) smile.gif

Ill look into those issues at New Plymouth...probably a discrepancy between the flatten and the airport height.

Installer works fine.
Just checked New Plymouth taxied around the large tarmac area in front of the terminal and tried all the taxiways them flew a circuit and didn't find any problems

This is really odd. I get the effect when using the Baby Ace, the C208, the Baron and the Western Chopper but not when using any of the Fletchers or the Chipmunks I have. Did you use any of these in your tests?

There was a 2cm discrepancy between the airport height and flatten height so that what was causing it. Remember that aprons don't know their height but taxiways do so if you are on a taxiway you should 'sit' on top of it. If you are on an apron with a slight different airport elevation, you may sink :/

Thanks for that smile.gif

Who downloaded the basic package? Did it go OK?

Timmo

Just a quick correction needs to be made to the Hastings frequencies. Currently the sim thinks Hastings is controlled by Napier Tower on 129.900. In real life all 129.9 is, is a relay frequency so IFR or controlled VFR flights can get in touch with Napier tower on the ground in Hastings. Hastings is uncontrolled on 125.800.

So in FSX

AWIB - 132.950
Unattended - 125.800
Remote Clearance - 129.900

Thanks Scon- Will make the changes now. (Edit: Actually, it's a bit harder than that. ADE won't allow you to change to a frequency used by another airfield within a certain radius so I can't assign 129.900....but have made inquiries to get this sorted)

I should also give an update to these airfields and the project in general.

We have decided to make the VLC object libraries freely available to VLC customers and non-customers alike so that we can really push the development of better airfields in New Zealand.

This means that everyone has the ability to use these objects in their airfield projects to cut down on development time and contribute any objects/textures they have. This obviously means that the 'basic' airports are now obsolete as everyone can use the 'enhanced' version. This has a benefit for me in cutting down development time as well since simultaneously developing two airports for every location was too time consuming smile.gif

Robin is just checking some of the installer code for me but I hope to have these up soon. I have also been working on a brand new airport as well as a re-vamp of another existing one, both of which will be announced when closer to completion.

Cheers
