"now back to the starting point " thats it in a nutshell Ian....and we will keep going back to that point for a long time.....so lets stop waiting...find out which ground is solid enough , and get moving....throw away the old plans ....CHC Mk2 here we come.

Yeah my wife was trying to watch it, she was pissed (she's deaf).
As most of the news programs in Perth are not subtitled (well foxtel as we don't get free 2 air) it's very refreshing to be able to get instant information, as live subtitles can lag, and when they get too far behind they cut their losses and start where the current information is.
As ex cantabs, it's affecting both of us quite a lot, and when the mayor had the interpreter with him all the time, she got a lot more information than anything else.
For all you cantabs though, well done on living there - I don't know if I would have the strength to continue staying there. Having said that, seeing the iconic places crashing down, it does make me home sick. The church at Latimer Square (St Johns) was where I use to go, and I saw that the vicarage beside it has gone. How many times have I walked past the cathedral, gone to Lyttelton etc.
When I come home, there is going to be a very different Christchurch. When asked what I have contributed to on this earth my reply will be my daugther

Bit more solid, a bit higher up to avoid rising sea levels...
It's a rare opportunity, and a smart call, for future generations not to have to go through all that again.
