Is buying a new FSX program ever helpful?

Hi there fellow simmers.
Its 'Pete 1800ft 'here.Im still about and simming.
Ive got a question if thats ok.
I have got a 'laughably' low spec computer by many standards, but when I first put FSX into it some 2 odd years ago,I got humble but ok frame rates for smooth flying with the sliders down quite low.Since that time I have put in add on aircraft, taken them out, added things, removed things etc etc, generally mucking about with it(as you do).I off chance discovered FS9 some 8 to 12 months ago,and I took FSX out altogether for that time, but the thing is now that when I have come back to FSX just recently i.e loaded it back in,its running like a bag of bottoms. The default settings have come miles down, you know how when you load the game and it susses out your specs to set 'default settings'thats gone right down to nothing, and my frame rate default (don't laugh) is down to ten.
I put in updated drivers at some point and I thought that might have been the problem,so I recently uninstalled them and chucked in some older 'Nvidia' drivers and it helped a little bit but only by a couple of frames.
Im getting a new processor today hopefully,so thats over with, but last night as I was going to remove the program for the last time,I noticed that there was a option to repair as well as remove,so I thought hmmm maybe thats the problem, maybe Ive stuffed up the default CFG files, and its always coming back to those settings when I load up the game, but when I tried to repair it,it got one quarter through the process and the computer seized, and now it wont even let me unload the game!!
As I said Im not mucking around with FSX and my old processor any more, but here is the question...finally..you think...
'WHEN I GET THIS NEW PROCESSOR WOULD IT BE A GOOD IDEA TO BUY FSX AGAIN?'.The reason I ask this is Im wondering..'IS IT POSSIBLE TO CORRUPT THE CFG FILES LOADED ON TO THE FSX DISCS THEMSELVES?'
If anyone can help me I would be so grateful. The new processor is a given, but I don't to have to fork out $50 for FSX again if I don't have to.
Kind regards from Pete in 10fps hell..........

You wont have corrupted the CFG on the disk.
Try do a really good defrag

Download the 30 day trial of that and see if that helps.

You might have a bunch of background apps running, these use up valuable system resources, if so, stop them before you use FSX.

I would recommend that program, run the turbo mode and do a Deep clean, the Turbo can end all processes which are not required

Don't forget to install the SPs, I wouldn't even attempt to run FSX without SP1 at least. (Although of course you have to run it at least once before installing SP1:)

O.K guys.Thanks.
Ive been wanting a good computer for ages but I just don't want to get ripped off,as most computer shops second hand and new, don't really get flight simming.Iv'e gone into shops with $2000 in my pocket and all I seem to get is vacant stares and watch gazing. Its so frustrating.Ive been looking on trade me for processors under 'gaming computers'but I don't really know whats what.I just need 30fps on low settings for FSX.I don't even really like the autogen trees. If I can get a good second hand, clean processor, that I can put FSX in and wer'e away, I would be happy, but it always seems like its one hurdle after the other.
Is there anyone out there in the FS world who can sell me reasonable processor?Perhaps even in the Nelson region so I can come and pick it up.I need somone to get along side me and get me going.
I just love FSX,and its been breaking my heart after my mandatory 10 minute load time to hear that 737 roaring at the end of the runway, and then not even being able to look around the cockpit without freezing.
Im actually not joking,Im getting really sick of not knowing stuff to get me simming on a good computer, and hesitating evry time I try and take action to get that sorted, because lets face it,the people selling the processors they just want my money, they are not interested in my quest to get a 'reasonable little package'for FSX in the most cost effective manner,so as yet I havn't parted with my money.
I will try those programs 'Dontcopy',I have PM'd you. Thanks also Bazza, and Toprob for your responses, but as I say if someone out there has a good second hand processor that will run FSX 'just fine' please let me know.
Love you guys,

Pete, where exactly are you? Have you posted your PC specs anywhere?
You might be surprised how well you can run FSX if you just do it right. There is good advice here for starters, especially defrag and turning off processes not required by windows.. I have a modest PC by moden standards, and can run it just fine.
I'm in Nelson myself. Maybe I can help get your PC to your magic 30fps mark without spending any money?
