Frank was doing aeros over our right shoulder during that flight and the vertical penetration was very impressive.
Watching it do a beat up over Omaka as we were joining overhead was brilliant.
It is so awesome to have this aeroplane here, I get to pat it every week at beer o clock, it should be flying again soon but the boys are doing a few mods and some other maintainence etc before it flies again.
We only got to see a brief glimpse but this will be quite a performer, and would be nice to see a dog flight with the Spitfire IX
Make sure you give us a heads up when its due to fly next. I did see it just prior to the Airshow and it was awesome to both see and hear. But my 10 y/o son is gutted as he missed it and he's yet to see it in the air !!

Yip, it would be interesting to see...only problem is that the Spit has a 60+ year handicap compared to the FW... PV270 is a genuine WWII Spitfire, the FW190 is only a few years old, built new in Germany...

That Spit would be as brand new as FW , no handicap at all , come on Mark , New Zealand aircraft engineers are the most sort after world wide AL is brand new ! the Focke Wolf 190 would have enjoyed the same tender love and care so would also be brand new from the teams that put her back together in Europe .Last edited by Ian Warren on Wed Aug 03, 2011 10:52 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Much of PV270 is in fact still original, including many of the fuselage frame members and wing ribs. Not to mention that beautiful Merlin. Sure it was reconditioned, but it DOES still date back to the mid-1940's.
The FW190 is a replica built by FlugWerk, and first flew on 22 July 2004. So, it's 60 years or so newer. Would hardly be a fair fight...

Gone the days .. big grumble grumble , its strange and nice we can both compare and all share types , they are still lethal but just so nice to have them side by side
