Took my new toy for a fly today ... Default NZCH to default NZAA, PMDG NGX. These images are clickable links, if you click them you'll get full size versions in a new window or tab.

Taxying out to runway 2

Lined up ... Hmm, pass me that airport diagram again please ?

Off the ground and turning back towards Burnham

climbing towards the west coast, with the alps on the terrain display

over the alps

somewhere :-)

somewhere else :-)

and a profile

descending past Te Kauwhata

here's the HUD approaching NZAA. The circle points to where you're actually going, very useful when you're crabbing. This video of PMDG's demonstrates it quite nicely. The centreline is defined, and the -3.00 line is on the touchdown point.

as you get closer the runway definition on the HUD grows some runway edges to really help you put it down in the right place. They do get tighter in as you get lower down ...

I would have included the obligatory touchdown shot but I accidentally hit ctrl-break instead of ctrl-printscreen and that was the end of the flight. Bugger.

As far as I know that is VLC ! I think what you mean is "you need some decent add-on airport scenery" laugh.gif And nope, the paint kit hasn't been out long enough yet for anyone to come up with a local version. PMDG made the decision on this one to only do real paints, and leave all the fictitious ones to the community.

Great pics! I'm enjoying the NGX immensely. For once, I'm a bit daunted by the documentation - and am delighted to be able to get in the air with just the usual background Boeing startup and MCDU info acquired from other add-ons. I'm sure I'm missing out on a lot ... but that's the joy of it ... I can learn it all gradually.

I've been flying the Qantas repaint, which has at least got a ZK rego winkyy.gif.

Beware when installing some of those repaints - the repaint manager plonks them in the wrong variation, so you have to move a couple of them (and edit the aircraft.cfg files accordingly).

I didn't get any of those (that I've found yet) but I did have the read-only aircraft.cfg files - when I tried to install the paints windows said "hey, these are read only, want me to fix that?" and that was the end of the problem.

I know what you mean about the manuals, here's a post I just put up on PMDG's forum :

QUOTE
QRH 452 pages
FCOM1 1035 pages
FCOM2 1240 pages
FCTM 416 pages

That's 3143 pages of manuals, not counting the introduction and tutorial, and do you think I can find the empty weights of the variants anywhere ? blink.gif

I've tried searching for "weight" across all pdf's in the folder but got about two and a half thousand hits, then I tried searching for "empty weight" and got pointed at the guide for the EFB (electronic flight bag) which may give me the info I'm after when I figure out how to turn it on ohmy.gif but isn't there just an ordinary list of weights somewhere ?[/quote]

That was posted after I'd spent 15 minutes doing global searches trying to find out how to start the clock to time the flight - you might have spotted that in the first couple of screenshots it's not running, and at the end it says 26 minutes which is optomistic from CHC-AKL ...

Don't ya hate that! laugh.gif I've done it may times before, occasionally on rather long flights. Its the parking brake that does it for me. You pull off the runway and stop to raise your flaps, contact ground, etc, and go to push Ctrl+. but accidentally push Ctrl+; and that is that. tongue.gif

Nice screenies! thumbup1.gif

If nothing else, you could use my re-vamped runways/taxiways for the stock NZAA that gets rid of the redundant runway lighting etc. Do a search on Flightsim.com for nzaa_05r_23l.zip .
