In all the time I was at Auckland I never heard once of firearms being found at AvSec. I wonder, then, if these were BB/airsoft guns that have been seized, since under the Arms Act they're treated as firearms as far as misuse goes.

I bet you the firearms seazed were people trying to import without enough paperwork to keep customs at bay or they didn't have their c or e cat endorsements altho i would lean towards not enough paperwork as i'm in the situation of trying to import some things myself

This is AvSec stuff so it's all outgoing and in the cabin.

In regards to the firearms I would say the following from the article is a key segment, also regards to the number of explosives:

I shouldn't skim read! AvSec once had a go at me for having a rifle scope in my carry on (because I didn't want to put it in checked baggage because I know how they treat bags). Then they accused me of having a pistol in there after seeing that :/

Then there was the torch...
