FSX Annoying frame rate drop

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

Postby Nosecone » Fri Sep 16, 2011 3:04 pm

Hi all,
I have annoying frame rate issue, I can be flying around getting about 25-31 frames then they drop to 9-12( Like watching a slide show) then back up to 25-31 and so on . I have the standard default and some freeware scenery, so addon-on wise nothing too taxing.
FSX settings are set to about midway on all sliders, water texture x1, res set to 1024 x 768, weather set to basic and aircraft visuals low

My system specs:

Software: FSX Gold edition, so I have the service pack updates for FSX
P4 3.4 Dual core
3.5 gig ram
New Asus ENGTS 450 1gig pci-e card ( old card was a 7600 gs 512meg pci-e) latest nvidia drivers
operating system windows xp home 34 bit service pack 3

I have used the FSX auto tweak which has made the adjustments in a new fsx cfg file and I am using a frame rates limiter
Defrag the PC etc....

Cheers

Rhys

Rhys , XP will only use 3Gram and course so would FSX , to utilize the full 3Gram you need 2x2Gig sticks or one 4Gig , the 1.5 extra sitting there really is doing nothing .
Course you also want the same brand , best find out the fastest 4gig verse cost .

Thanks Ian,
I heard the more ram for fsx the better which would mean upgrading to windows 7. I plan to build a PC just to run fsx for the simulator I am building. I wondered if there was
anything in particular causing the frame rate problem.

Cheers

Don't suppose you are using some sort of program that does an autosave at set intervals?

Can happen anywhere ,seems about every 50 seconds or so the frames drop, lasts about 20 seconds then back to normal, and so on

If you are using FSUIPC disable the autosave, some systems that tax's them too much if they are on the limit. Will cause big pauses.
