C-337 question

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Postby Splitpin » Sun Sep 18, 2011 2:16 pm

Ive been doing a little digging around re, 337's operating in NZ. I know Air Chathams had a couple back in the 80's (TAI & TSH) the later was a pressurized aircraft i think...also DFT worked with Taupo Air Services, and DRO with Rex.....BUT....Im sure i have seen, many moons ago another one in Helicopter Line colours paked at Glenntanner, and spotted again at Milford.....as i said many years ago.

Any idea what the rego was and where it might be now.....even i pic, and i might try a repaint .....try being the operative word.... winkyy.gif

Skymasters appearing on the New Zealand civil register (as at 1 may 1999) include ZK-DFT, ZK-DSC (337G), ZK-FZA (T337G), ZK-KLB (337A), and ZK-TSH (T337G). Apart from the RNZAF museum model, no other military models have reached New Zealand, although ZK-DFT and ZK-FZA have been painted to represent O-2A
ZK-TAI and ZK-TSH were both registered to Air Chathams both were in accidents and ZK-TAI is now stored in a shed somewhere on the chathams and ZK- TSH is in storage somewhere in Tarinaki

FZA is parked in the back of a hangar at Ardmore, doubt it will ever fly again but would be nice to be proved wrong!

That hangar is full of all sorts of interesting things. The white fuselage you can see a small part of to the immediate right of the 337 is what's left of ZK-EAT which was crashed at Ardmore a couple of years ago. The wing on the left is part of ZK-PLN which is a pretty speedy looking homebuilt although I've never seen it flying. There's also a Stearman, Mooney, Europa monowheel, disassembled Auster, a Cessna 150 as well as a whole pile of old pieces of wings and fuselages. Next time I'm in there I'll take more photos.
