Omaka Open Days

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Postby Gavin Conroy » Sun Sep 25, 2011 7:41 am

Here is a photo taken at yesterdays open day at Omaka.
Another open day will be held on October 8. Was a nice day to just be around old aeroplanes and great people. Arthur Dovey put on two brilliant displays in his Yak 3 and it will display again (depending on weather and serviceablity) on September 8 so time to get planning and be on the field for this if you can.
It is not a full on airshow, just a low key open day with some flying thrown in.

The AHC website was updated quite a while ago and you can see more info as to what the day involves.

Looked like a beauty day , sun planes , Arthur Dovey , any relation to the famous pioneering southern aviator Rex Dovey ?

Rex is Arthur's cousin.
You can see them both looking over the Yak 3 that is being restored.

Nice line up of aircraft...does Arthur Dovey's Yak-3 live at Omaka now or just visiting?

Nice to see the Helio Courier in the background too - the ultimate bush plane!

Open Day October 8:

Here are a few photos from yesterday.
It was a beautiful blue day first thing in the morning but a cold front made an appearance.
We had a good crowd up until that point and people kept coming throughout the day, but it did get bitterley cold at times.
Conditions were not that great upstairs so some of the planned flying didn't happen and the wind got so gusty at times that the light aeroplanes had to be put away.
None the less it was a good day out, seeing the two Yaks run side by side was brilliant and a small taste of what is to come.
