For those who came, I would like to send an email to the Management and staff at Air Nelson for allowing us to do what we did and also for taking time out of their busy day to explain what they do.

Maybe mention Kevin and the tower staff too???

Please post comments here with your name and Hometown and I will compile an email with Dean to send to the Air Nelson team.

Cheers Nick.
Look forward to seeing your pics Scaber!

Yay, good idea Nick! I'm from Nelson so it was easy for me to attend. It was great to be able to put names to faces. Rather a small turnout, but I guess it made it easier to handle than a large group when doing the 'Grand Tour' of the airport. It was interesting to find all the different interests that folk have when simming, from just tooling around low and slow in a microlight, or cracking those tricky carrier landings, through helicopters,hi speed jets & military aircraft, up to a full blown commecial airline such as VANZ. Many thanks to Nick for a great job organizing the weekend, Kevin, who gave the Saturday morning talk on the Q300, certainly knows his stuff and is a great speaker...verree interesting! The rest of the tour through the hangers, including close up inspection of the aircraft, and then visiting all the various departments and operations behind the scenes was quite an eye opener...all the things that a passenger isn't aware of. This was topped of by a visit to the control tower, fantastic. All the staff where friendly and only too happy to give us an insight into the many operations that are necessary to the running of Air Nelson A great big thank you to them all and to Nick Roberts for his fine efforts. Much appreciated. PS. The visit to the Sim Pit on Sunday was a lot of fun...Ya gotta try it next time you visit 'Sunny? Nelson'
Cheers.

Hi Nick
That's a great idea. I'm from Christchurch and this get together provided a great excuse for a little break. I was most impressed with the way in which all the staff were pleasant and interested in what we were doing despite the fact that we were interrupting their work routines. The quality of their comments and summing up of what they were responsible for made for a most interesting tour of the airport facilities.

I could happily have listened to another hour or two of Kevin's fascinating insights into the workings of the aircraft systems - though I may have needed a few coffee breaks, I would have been willing to have a day of just listening and questioning him. He made it interesting and even compelling to listen to.

The staff in the control tower were amazingly accommodating in allowing us all up there and, in my opinion, went out of their way to make us welcome and explain some of their procedures.

One of the things that really impressed me was the fact that everyone was interested in our virtual flying and appeared to see it in a positive light, comparing what they did with what we do in FSX and virtual airlines. That was most encouraging to me.

Thanks too to you Nick for your organisation and enthusiasm in making all this possible. I came home from the weekend away feeling fully satisfied with the meet up. After the visit to the SimPit I know one place that will be on my agenda for my next visit to Nelson.

Regards
Greg aka Scaber
