I haven't tried this myself but a few guys have mentioned that it has a significant impact on FSX load times. It basically involves unpacking and re-compressing .Cab files.
Read about it here.

Hopefully it should work for FS9 too.
Howdy therea solid state drive will make all the difference, a significant difference in fact. After lots of research and inquiry it turned out the Intel was the more likely reliable and stable SSD given the technology available in such a component thus far. I kicked the tin, bought two 80gb SSd's, one for operating system and one for FSX......the difference is just incredible. Be interesting to hear others experiences.

I bet that you will soon wish that you had a much bigger SSD, you will probably find that 80GB is too small before long. I wish that I had purchased a much bigger drive.
great performance though.
smooth landings.
Lol....yes you would be correct, but i couldn't kick the tin that hard without suffering a sore toe or two

Remembering something I had read, I saved it and removed it, letting FSX create a new one. Old one about 12 mgbs, new one about 6.
On the three occasions since, I find the start-up time, is about a half of what it was, i.e. now about 2 minutes 10 seconds from startup to ready to take off.
As a bonus I also find that a graphics problem I have had for ages is solved, areas of hills in the far distance were being represented as black
squares and triangles, this seems to be solved. The only downside was that bloody awful startup music came back but is simply fixed.
I may have lost a few tweaks from over the years but nothing seems to be having a negative effect. Obviously I can always revert to the original
if needs be but at the moment it was worth the fiddle.
