Just recent like tonight mention of our Museum A4s on TV3 news , sold 8 to the USA for what ever .. but also mentioned current jets , they are borrowed/loaned to the Museums ? doubletalk or change off mind or did i hear the story wrong .

The A-4's at MOTAT , Wigram, Wanaka etc are technically only on loan for a few years....with some quite strict rules in place. After a few years those are relaxed a bit.....its really odd , but thats how i understood it. The team are down in Wanaka this week, i presume to "install" their one.

would be very surprised if they sale goes through, given that the US Defense dept has to approve it, sounds very much like the previous sale that was lined up, i hop i am wrong, also the one news report said that the museum ones where safe as it was only the 8 that haven't got any plans, watch this space i guess

Skyhawks come to 'embarrassing end'

The sale of the remaining mothballed Air Force Skyhawks is being described as the end of an embarrassing chapter for New Zealand.

The Government's found a buyer for the eight aircraft - US company JDI Holdings, which will pay $7.9 million for them.

Auckland University Associate Professor of Political Studies Stephen Hoadley says the sale is long overdue.

"It's embarrassing because New Zealand first of all disarmed itself and secondly because the aircraft that it took out of service it couldn't even sell off, so it got no return on the investment."

Mr Hoadley says the Skyhawks are excellent aircraft, but would no longer be effective in any country's Air Force.

The other nine Skyhawks of the original fleet of 17 have been permanently loaned to museums around New Zealand, and one to a museum in Australia.
