For those of you who are in need of a major PC upgrade and can afford it, Intel just released their new Extreme series range, 6 cores, 12 threads of absolute power.
It is roughly 15% faster than the old i7 990X with quad channel memory as-well as PCIE-3.0. It has also been overclocked to 4.2Ghz on stock voltage, so no doubt we will see some massive overclocks out of this thing.

The CPU retails for $1500 on Computer lounge, but it runs on the new X79 chipset so a MB upgrade is also needed.
Evening,
I have just spent the last 4 hours setting up my new rig. 3930k, 16GB ram Quad channel, GTX 570Ti Video Card, H80 Corsair liquid cooling. All running on x79 Sabertooth mobo. Haven't installed FSX yet but I have noticed a huge increase in speed from the 2600k just with loading times. I will report back with my FSX performance sometime over the weekend.Last edited by Kelvinr on Fri Nov 18, 2011 9:10 pm, edited 1 time in total.--------------------------------------

Can't wait to hear what its like!!
hmm must have been daydreaming when I posted. GTX 570.
Anyway, I will be testing initially with no tweaked settings except boyote's fsx cfg tweaker. otherwise no fps tweakers. my first test will be in the NGX.
by the way, here is proof of 6 cores / 12 threads.Last edited by Kelvinr on Sat Nov 19, 2011 10:11 am, edited 1 time in total.--------------------------------------

Hi Ian,
I don't have the ORBX regions so can't test with it. But the data I have is straight from testing on my machine. I will get some screens and post. We are talking default and my tests were not confounded with addon scenery as alot of users want raw data. I admit users may want to see the new system with those sceneries but i don't want to go out and buy scenery i hardly fly in. Anyway, i'm still keen to help those who are ambivalent in buying the new gear, that's what the forum is all about.Nzeddy wrote:QUOTE (Nzeddy @ Nov 19 2011,3:28 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Seattle using Orbx PNW.
i'd love to be able to test with these addons but as you may understand my $$ is spent on my new rig. hehe if you can see the irony, it's like buying a car and not having a road to test it on hehe. i may consider getting the taxing scenery when $$ permits to test for my own curiosity as well. what are the frames other people are getting from the ORBX PNW seattle area?Dontcopy wrote:QUOTE (Dontcopy @ Nov 19 2011,6:02 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Which Watercooling solution do you use? I'm about to buy an H80/H100 in a week or two. just curious.
H80, great cooler and easy to install. to add to this, the 39xx series cpu's don't ship with air coolers now, intel's new strategy i suppose. I could only source a water cooling unit for it.
what i can promise people is that FSX does take advantage of all cores which is great to see. I did try different affinity masks but the frames were not really any different than the one resulting in boyotes tweak of fsx.cfg.--------------------------------------

I can set the affinity mask for all cores and it shows. But there is some question after some more testing.--------------------------------------
