see my note on 9 november, where i did inactivate the default and vlc libraries, without any effect on the ctds. i am interested in what you said about gex textures. you may be aware of the fact that in connection with either a recent update of gex europe and/or the release of gex atlantic-pacific-tropics, nick needham mentions that some of the new textures may be seen in new zealand and some other countries. i am not sure whether there was some temporal association between the gex releases and the start of the ctds. i do not recall exactly when i began to experience the ctds, but i am reasonably sure they were not present for some time after installed vlc.

Hmm.
Is there a way to disable Gex? If so, I would be interested to see if the problem rears its head with no gex textures present.
The problem is, as far as I know (I don't use it), Gex simply overwrites default textures in the default directory which, if that results in an incomplete set may cause issues.

as far as i know, there is no entry in scenery library, nor any simple disabling procedure. you need to revert to a backup folder of all default textures, and then go through the reverse procedure to restore gex. it sounds to me complicated and dicey. i will try to find out whether anyone has actually done so. do you happen to know nick needham, who is one of the developers of the gex series? he is very active in the gex forums, and often seems willing to give people help and advice. i wonder whether he would be willing to provide you (from 1 developer to another!) with a list of the texture files which are used for new zealand.

Ok, there's just a couple of things I want to check out.
Do you have FSX SP1 and SP2 installed?

i don't know if your question is addressed to roy or to me, so i will just chime in. i have fsx sp1 and sp2 installed, as well as fsx acceleration. i have not tried to remove any of the files within the vlc scenery, other than to disable the mesh scenery folder. i run my autogen at very dense, and i have a customized fsx.cfg.

Sorry, yeah, aimed at Roy. There are a few things which I need to be clear on in his case, which looks like it relates to autogen density.
