I did'nt mean to turn this topic into a bun fight, i just wanted to express my disappointment at the lack of interest on behalf of the local council, and the museum here in CHC.
Im very aware of the NZDF commitments at the moment.

Lets just leave it there.

As you have to understand, this whole month has been pretty damn busy for the air force. Non-stop exercises, the biggest air show I've ever heard of in our history, constant aircraft upgrade [issues] and warbirds this weekend. As someone above said, they [we winkyy.gif] can't be everywhere at once.

I know Ham, and i know i said "lets leave it there" ....but they have known about this for, well, years. I just cant get my head around the fact , that it all (RNZAF) started here in CHC and all we get is the Air Force band playing for 2 hours at the Museum.

Cant begin to imagine what the 80th will be like....or maybe i can...'Ladys and Gents of anywhere other than Christchurch....the RNZAF proudly brought to you by the Warehouse....give HIM a hand clapping.gif "

Nothing personal Ham, but Im glad i did my time when history meant something.....because its obvious it means bugger all now.

I don't think that history "means nothing" to the Air Force just because due to a ton of commitments at the present and they can't put on an Air Show at ChCh where there has not been an operational base for almost 20 years. Talk about a lot of bitter and twisted people!!

History has a lot to do with it and the museum sits on this piece off turf and off all people , you Deane should understand that , its the history behind it , then the installations were used by private companies that could have furthered the future , flight tour operators , helicopter training , Christchurch flying school and the aircraft paint shop was used for many commercial work and had a possible future .... private flyins - leaving the field operational for people who live in the region , northern and lower South Island made it ideal , venues , sporting days such as the 'Wings and Wheels' events for example , it should have been kept as an aviation park .

Oh well I'll just leave you lot to wonder about what might have been in some fantasy land. Meanwhile back in the real world, there is only so much money and resources to work with.
If Wigram was a viable proposition it would have moved ahead, but the land is more valuable.

It had its workings ... I no its a dead fish now .. fact is it was viable , biggest problem was the politics and the tribal dribble , voting to keep the place was a waste off time that many years ago , another problem was the in time government , there own money gains and keep face , a grab for land and that is prity pathetic .. Give a tribe a fish .. they will steal the whole bloody fish and chip shop .

As you said its just history , but one pom said to me years ago , '"Trouble with New Zealand , you get wonderful things built up , create a history and then just rip it down again " , Its rather living in a twilight world , have something to show for it .

Marty, I agree totally that the Red Checkers should been over Wigram/Christchurch...I guess the 757 makes up for it a bit.

757 was pretty mediocre - flew over at about 1500ft with the engines at what seemed like flight idle. Until I saw it I thought it was just another J* A320 on a visual approach to CHC. dry.gif
