Noob Perspective

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby Sinz » Fri Apr 20, 2012 10:05 pm

Hi All,

I started with FSX Gold just before Christmas 2011.
I have a copy of MS 98. Which at the time I loved but couldnt really use properly due lack of system requirements.

My thoughts on the current situation. MS FSX vs MS Flight, well Microsoft is looking for that return from addons that developers have been getting for some years now. Thats pretty obvious!
Will I buy MS Flight or their expansions? Hell NO!
If I wanted another Game I would buy another PS3 Game or Map addon for killing Zombies. Great stress reduction!

I love Jets! Hence the purchase of PMDGs 737 Awsome aircraft. After that purchase I even went backwards and purchased the JS41, a Turbo Prop. No its not a Jet, but I find myself getting more involved in Simulated Flying than I thought I was.
However as a New Simmer I have to Think!, about where things are going!

MS FSX auto generated scenery is absolute C#$P. So as a New simmer I bought NZSI, OMG It actually looks like NZ. Well at least at 2/6 thousand feet.
So I have started with the leap into Open source scenery developers software. A few flights around NZ and the world became really small.
Bang Aussie SP4. Another ORBX piece of software. I have to say I'm pretty impressed.
I'm not the sort of guy to buy a 100k square box of scenery. Put a decent representation of a country out there for a decent price I'll buy it.
But looking down the track It has to be a SBSL, like ORBX is going because the Moment PrePar3D 2.0 becomes a viable option! Im gonna toss FSX and jump ship.
Anything that will do what FSX is doing ATM, but doing it with todays hardware, (DX11, GPU, Processor) I'm gonna support.

It's Friday night and I have had a couple or three drinks so excuse me if I am coming across wrong for the forum.

It's just an opinion. I have as a Noob Simmer. Waiting on PrePar3D 2.0 (wont buy it atm as they will probably want more for the upgrade, Ill buy more ORBX though)

Hehe lets see how long it takes before this post is deleted from forums!

Well its only going to get better for a newbie .. least by your standard , FS98 was in its day very amazing bar the square white box's that passed for clouds .. FS2000 finally changed that and have these puffy white things we call clouds .

Now you graduated to the PMDGroups 41 and 73 the New Zealand land and details have grown were in 2000 - i had so many combat sims shelved because Flight Sim took over every aspect for a hobby come real nav to model build to autogening city's that have models placed on them to make each center as real as it gets .

Noob , ..Hmm , idea is to look at the people who also use and dwell in this program - the top end within the real world industry and they cannot get enough - to come home from work only to repeat what they did 12 hours previous ... Noob's ... Nah

G'day Sinz,

the leader of P3D has announced that all 'Academic' license owners can have a free upgrade to version 2, so no need to hold back.

my FSX is as smooth as silk, so was reluctant to buy P3D but got it to compare - the picture seems clearer than FSX, the ported Orbx scenery really shines, and I notice I'm using P3D in preference - well worth it imho.

Quite right also give designer and developers a chance to build on the platform mean time FSX will hold its own and Flight sit dormant .
