Well ... this release took me by surprise as well!! I checked the site and found I had a few credits to spend smile.gif

Looks like our summer is finally petering out at NZWP ...

Up, up and away ...

To Wanaka!

Was forced to stop/refuel/party at Ohakea, so didn't get down to Wanaka till the following morning ...

I've always loved this incredible aircraft. Many schoolboy memories of it doing very naughty things when displays weren't quite so "politically correct".

I'm not entirely sure about some of the JF repaints. As I've delved a little into the repainting world lately, I'm maybe more critical than before. Some of the models seem to have way too much gloss. Even a newly restored/polished aircraft wouldn't be *that* shiny. Shame, as it's an easy enough thing to get right initially - much harder to correct later.

However - it's still an amazing aircraft in so many other respects - and definitely a "keeper" for my hangar. Splitpin - get well soon, so you can treat yourself to this one. You'll love it winkyy.gif

Adam and Ian - great pics of the 'muscle' plane. Just Flight models always leave me wondering how they'd look if 'Warbirdsim' or 'A2A' had a few days with them.

However ... all is not perfect.

It could be my install perhaps but....

1) I cant persuade the pilot to leave the cockpit (using the manual's suggested Shift/e+2)
2) From external view, stbd aileron deflection is half that of port aileron. Appears to be a visual issue only since no discernible effect on roll rate.
3) Reheat effect shows with throttles fully advanced - wait for it...... even when tanks are dry and we are in glider mode!!!
4) Engine noise in external view persists despite cold and dark vc

Anyone else observe this?

I'll check on the other bugs - but I can certainly confirm the reheat. My default start is generally cold and dark ... so when I jumped into it the very first time, there it was ... no engines, electrics or anything ... but afterburner on 100% laugh.gif. To be honest, I think it was just the *effect* as I certainly could take off. I'd have thought a real Lightning at 100% reheat would burn straight through/past the parking brake and end up at 20,000ft in 30 seconds anyway!

I hate to be disloyal, as I've won a couple of J/F prizes (and bought many of their recent releases anyway) but their standards do appear to be dropping a tiny bit :-(

I totally missed this ... a 66meg update for our STRIKE a LIGHTNING

• Service Pack
Added: 12th June 2012

This update is for the download and boxed versions of the product. If you purchased the download version before the date shown above, please download the service pack. Those who purchased the download version after the date shown above do not need to install the service pack. All users of the boxed version should install the service pack.

The update addresses numerous issues and improves the functionality and realism of the aircraft:

Port air-brake actuator no longer protrudes through air-brake
Reheat effects are no longer activated with the engines off
Reheat effects are now linked individually to each of the throttle levers
Right aileron now has full movement
Various improvements to the flight dynamics
Additional autopilot controls added for ease of use
Brake parachute handle added
Heading and course select knobs added
Flaps and ailerons are now visible from the virtual cockpit
Master ignition switch is now clickable
Reheats now activate when throttles are advanced above 95%, as per the real aircraft
Redtop missiles have been reshaped to more closely match the real missile
Issue fixed which caused gear to be visible through top of the wing when retracted
G-meter now reads 1G when aircraft is stationary
Fuel gauges reduced in size and layout changed to more closely match the real aircraft
HSI lights altered to more closely match the real aircraft
Windscreen mounted direction indicator has been moved down windscreen pillar to more closely match the real aircraft
Texture issue on windscreen frame has been fixed
Issue with speed-tape protruding from panel has been fixed
