Don't forget Marty , the only operational base in the NZ for the Strat is Gav's Ohakea smile.gif , amazing to think the B-52 carry's 108 iron bombs ( 24x750-lb) external were the B-1 can carry a 172 (all 500-lb) .. think of the mess that would make ohmy.gif

Just as well they didn't have the '52's during WWII: can you imagine the carnage a couple of squadrons of these things could do via the carpet-bombing method? ninja.gif ohmy.gif

biggrin.gif look at that ... you can tell which side had the bigger brecky ... tongue.gif .. amazing thing , a quick count there are 70 men standing on that wing , add another 14 men then convert them into a Mk82 500lb (227kg) bomb , the bomb size is approximately the size of one them chaps ... that is whats carried internally .. then add 24 - 12 each side on the wing pylon Mk83 750lb (341kg) brings up the total drop off 108 bombs .. don't have the figures on hand but each bomb has close another 100lb to its weight .. hella a lotta BANG ohmy.gif anda hella lotta weight

They did something similar at a RIAT Fairford display once ... except on a Globemaster ... and they did a line-dance. Nearly brought the display to a complete standstill! Not sure if anyone managed to video it, as it was a bit of an impromptu thing.
