but i think the sooner we get merged into the Australian defense system the better......problem solved ?
Good idea. If we had done this earlier we might have stopped the stuff-up that is HMNZS Canterbury.

Im no defense analyst , but it makes perfect sense to me, and i cant see that the implementation would be overly difficult.

Remain Kiwi (whatever that entails ) but be part of a joint defense force . I dont see the need to be completely absorbed into Australia, just contribute to their/our defense budget .

Im sure there are a zillion of reasons why it wouldn't work , but i bet there are more reasons why it would (work)

The Australasian Defense Force ....... sounds good, now come up with an appropriate badge and roundel .......or , tell me why it wouldn't, or shouldn't happen.

On an aside, soon , we may no longer need a passport to travel to the land of Oz....... if we can get that close, then why not consider the merge, its not rocket science,,,,or maybe it is dry.gif

Yes it make sense but often sense gets thrown out the window when you have two fiercely competitive and independent countries.

Im no defense analyst ,

Neither am i , but neither are most aircrews or a lot of defense people .. not silly .. but many here have a good recommendation that could be used or put ideas on the table , very simple a very typical pompus approach .

A defense analyst , now where do we get such people .. what do they no more than what i no .. and the history that gets them that job .

I don't think it makes real sense actually... we've got a different climate, culture, resource base, ecology... you name it. We share a common language and proximate location is all, and there is a lot of good will between us. Something along the lines of the EU is more appropriate.

According to Wiki:

QUOTE
New Zealand purchased five SH-2Gs at the same time as Australia. However, New Zealand opted for new-build airframes that were outfitted with different avionics. The SH-2G purchase was completed at NZ$12 million under the $338 million budgeted (excluding GST). The first RNZN SH-2G was delivered in mid-2001, and the last was delivered February 2003.
