I've revecied a PM about my set-up so thought I'd flick a photo up of my pit and ask others to share photos of their cockpits also

Hi guys im interested in a monitor set up simular to zkcav im not running fsx as i dont like its performance short comings here are my specs....

Amd 1090t BE 3.2g sealed water cooler antec 960
Asrock 970 extreme 4 mb
8 gigs 1600 ddr3 ram
Sapphire 6870 1gig gfx with 5 display outputs 2dvi 3 mini hdmi
Fs9.1
2x dell 20" monitors i want to add another three to this

I also have a galaxy 10.1 android 3.2 tablet that i would like to use as a touch screen fmc i have a small app called screen slider that allows me to use it as another monitor on my desktop its
connected via wifi i have tried using it with my ifdg airbus with vasfmc but no luck i can drag the fmc to my tablet and mouse click on it but the touch screen isnt working. The app allows me to use a single tap to represent a mouse click etc so im unsure why its not working.

I dont believe i need anything like the matrox tripple head as amd do eyeinfinity ideally i would love to have three monitors displaying the outside view, one monitor displaying panel etc and the other for all the add on windows etc

Im keen to keep the res the same as in remain with 20"monitors as eyeinfinty doesnt like differentscreen res and scalles everything down to the lowest monitor res

Anyhelp would be great

Cheers

May as well add my latest. There is a couple days work in this so far (thanks to my new replacement CNC) but I havent done anything for another couple.

I hope progress to keep going at a good rate. It is the cockpit of an A10 with the aces II seat.

Dry fit assembly next to the dining rom table before its moved to the sim room smile.gif It should all be skinned and populated with panels sometime soon.

Brilliant stuff, you clever devil.
Man, I wish I could get away with building something like that next to my dining room table laugh.gif

Nice work - but I wonder...... do you print your own money! ohmy.gif I'm looking at getting DCS A-10 after I build my new PC rig so I started researching some HOTAS controls but the ones you have are close to $800!?!?!

Like Warren said, good idea. Possibly easier is to print the virtual money which can be seen as just the electronic kind or the actual money I spend that I dont have smile.gif

Through a couple other forums I sold 90 odd extensions for that $800 controller which more than paid for my entire simulator, including the pc, screens, controllers etc. I am very lucky to have had everything in this hobby paid for by this hobby.

Only downside is that I am completely over doing them. I have had requests for many more orders but my lathe and large mill are not CNC. I dont think I could face the repetitiveness of doing another manually smile.gif

While dreaming about that printing press I thought I would take a quick vid of where I was up to.

I have moved the pit to it's final position and created some mounts for the side monitors. It was impossible to get in to the seat if it was fixed so I added some bearings to the bottom of the seat and decided it should run on rails.

Here is a quick look at progress so far. I thought that next week I might put the laser to work and cut out a lot of the panels so it starts to look the part. It really is cool how far down the 42" screens are in portrait mode, below the sides of the cockpit once it is skinned.

Wow, That's looking great. I'm astounded with the immersion of it.

I've always wanted a CNC machine! How much did that cost?!?! Interesting layout with your LCD screens - are you using Nvidia Surround/Eyefinity or something else?

Actually, for DCS I am running it in windowed mode. DCS removes the frame though.

So in its configuration it covers the whole area of 4080x2160. Eyefinity doesnt support portrait/landscape/portrait. For other sims that want to run fullscreen I use soffth instead of eyefinity. This tricks the game in to thinking I have a single monitor og the large resolution.

I think you can buy s similar machine here for around $50k. I imported it directly and saved about 50%.

OF course you dont have to buy one, here is the first one I had that I built. You can build one for a heck of a lot less than buying one.

You can see more of it in the later half of the clip.

Guess if your going to spend big dollars on a CNC your sure as heck going want to make sure it makes some moneys at the other end , after engineering for thirty years and using these machines in the metal world , it can be more gratifying planing and building the old traditional and even reduce costings again even using the simplist materials .

True Warren, I like being in the workshop. Mine is a home based workshop so space is limited and I do it for fun.

Most woodworking projects I do are done in a more traditional way, although using many machines i.e. jointer/buzzer, thicknesser, tablesaw, bandsaw etc. All of my metalwork is done on my manual machines but it does limit some operations.

While there is fun in working with wood without the CNC the CNC surely shines when cutting up sheet goods, I dont ever want to go back to doing that again! It also excels at things that I dont have the skills for, like carving.

I am lucky, my machines dont have to pay their way so everything gets used in a way that enhances what I get out of my projects. No pressure to maximise efficiency here smile.gif

The CNC has added another world of options with aluminium as well. I do a lot with aluminium and I can now do stuff in aesthetic ways I wouldnt have bothered with before.

End of the day , looking at results they are all are coming up with 'great' , you and your CNC , have the pattern already working you could get a job at Hunters Furniture , making lazyboy style ejector seats for the flight simmer biggrin.gif

I just watched your entire channel....... I think I need to win Lotto. I have looked at DIY CNC machines before but to be honest its all a bit beyond me. I think I need to find a kit that just needs to be assembled - rather than sourcing all the parts myself and trying to put it all together. I loved watching your laser cutter - I can think of 101 uses for that in my new simpit! Although pleased with my handmade simpit I'm not 100% happy. I've decided to build a new one from the ground up and will have to investigate a CNC machine further as the results are a thousand times better! Thanks for the info/inspiration!
