Quick question (may have been answered previously but going through 49 pages... :/ ):

With the student loan changes for CPL, would this mean less student pilots taking it up? And would that in turn mean more chances of work, or is the industry quite tight because of the recession? I'm thinking about my options for next year but I'm still undecided.

In short, I guess the answer would be yes, slightly. Don't expect to be walking straight out of flying school into a Q300 (or even a Piper Navajo for that matter) though. My pick is that it will always be pretty tough to make a start of a flying career if you stay in NZ.

Thanks for the reply mate, appreciate the reply. I'm quite willing to go overseas if need be, no problem for me there. I'll have to keep pondering it, I've got another 18months to think anway

Hey guys,

Glad I found this forum, looking for some feedback. This seems like the appropriate thread.

Looking to get my CPL in Christchurch (Rotary Wing) and I'm tossing up between Garden City Helicopters and Helipro. I'm partial to Garden City since my visit to the Westpac Search and Rescue as a lad which sparked my interest in Helicopters.
However, I'm generally just looking at any experiences, past or present, from either of these schools. I've been to Helipro and am going to stop in at Garden City for a look around shortly, although I'd prefer some feedback from people who aren't running the show.

I had planned to join the RNZAF, although I was rejected due to my history of Asthma. So that route is no longer possible for me.

From what I saw, Garden City is the way to go. Helipro is just like a factory now. Learning from Neil Scott is good aswell.

Liam , me have only a lotta hours fixed wing no PPL , eight sailplane/glider and do you think they would let me in the doors at CAC , Damien and Marks eyebrow's would raise a fair bit if i walked in the place looking like that .

All my Heilo training is on the PC ... Nick only know s me to well
