Having a "Missus" is an unnecessary distraction away for the serious businesses of Shopping, Cooking, Drinking, Flight Simming, and playing with toys... winkyy.gif ...!

Always been a bit wary of that use, suspecting that its mainly aimed at Simmers who take ATC really seriously/far too seriously...

It's true that some folks (both on the ATC and flying side) do take it too seriously, but its more about realism from my perspective. Do you want to fly IFR for example? Well why not do it under ATC guidance as well? You really can't knock it mate until you try it, you really must give it a crack. Choose an airspace your familiar with, and an airframe you know inside out, work out where the charts are hosted and you'll be away laughing. First few times it seems a little stressy, certainly adds a little pressure when you know someone's watching the scope. Default ATC is a joke, once you've done a few legs on VATSIM (or IVAO) you wont turn back, I guarentee it !!!

QUOTE (Fozzer)
I would perish the thought of annoying other Vatsim Members whilst on-line![/quote]
Why would you annoy them? You seem to have loads of experience in the sim. All thats expected of you is that you fly roughly by the book, and follow ATC instructions if you're not or you deviate for some reason. Most controllers are happy to help out and will do if you stray of course, too high/low, miss a waypoint or radial or ILS etc. They'll usually give you a clear voice instruction and if you dont understand will followup with a text message so you can read it at your own pace. True there are some guys who get bossy when the airspace is busy, the secret for you or anyone else wanting to dip their toe is to pick a nice quite period where there is a tower guy on and do some circuits or maybe fly out and back to somewhere else.

Go for gold mate, you'll love it !!!

BTW - where do you usually fly? A few of us could jump online at the same time one night and tag along.

Where do I fly?...
For the past 14+ years, every single day, since Flight Unlimited II, touring the whole of California and the Western Seaboard, from Seattle to San Diego, and across to Nevada and Arizona.
with FS '98, FS 2000, FS 2002, FS 2004, (and FSX on very rare occasions), using mostly General Aviation aircraft, flying under VFR and IFR conditions, Solo, with and without default ATC (very nice!), or flying on-line with other Pilots, using either private IP addresses, or Multiplayer FS Host Servers!
My main/only use for the Sim is just to explore the surrounding countryside at low level, with the aid of Google Satellite Maps, and Wikipedia for local area information.
My knowledge of Radio Communication and Navigation is assisted by my FS Navigator and Plan G v2, using my full Bendix-King Radio Stack plus instruments, (installed in ALL my aircraft!), and the occasional use of default ATC, which works excellently for my particular purpose!
FS 2004 using default ATC would suit me perfectly!
...(its just a shame that it was never implemented for FS 2004 Multiplayer...only for FSX Multiplayer!)

Above all... I have FUN in all my flights, either Solo, or with other Multiplayers, for a friendly chat, and a good laugh and a joke!....(which probably would not suit Vatsim users!).

..and even after 14+ years I never take the MS Flight Sims seriously...life is far too short!

Fun and Enjoyment are the magic words in everything!

Paul...FS 2004...FS Nav...a very speedy Cessna 150 Aerobat...lots of radios, and a big Joke Book!.... biggrin.gif ...!

....... biggrin.gif ...!

Having spent most of my retirement years since 1984, playing with, and programming, various 1970s, 1980's, and 1990's Computers and Game Consoles, (Sinclair Spectrum, Commodore C64, Amiga, Atari, etc; Atari 2600, Megadrive, etc, etc)...
..I can't help looking at my Flight Sim Monitor, and knowing full well that the image appearing before me is just a collection of coloured pixels.
The fixed centre image representing an "Aeroplane", with the "Scenic Background" scrolling around by me, by varying the X,Y,Z pixel coordinates, to give the impression of movement.... winkyy.gif ...!
I can never convince myself that I am flying a real aeroplane.... winkyy.gif ....
...for that, I Motorbike off to my local flying Club for a leisurely trip in a real Cessna 150/152.....
...the rest, in my Computer, is all an illusion, in the mind of the beholder!....trust me!... laugh.gif ...!

Paul.... laugh.gif ... laugh.gif ... laugh.gif ....!

The Ultimate Destroyer of Dreams!... tongue.gif ...(Its what I do!)..... laugh.gif ... !

So do I mate, so do I. Of course you'll never actually know if it suits Vatsim or not.
A shame though, the Californian VATSIM chapter is some of the best coverage on the globe.

I understand though. If you're not up for it... you're not up for it ...

Oh.. and ... dont mention it ... dry.gif

That is it , the virtual sky and in MP really is a lot of fun , go anywhere and discuss or build on it , if your not up for it , its still open skies for later on .

Now a show , well the topic , is like another of recent , course this again requires the ears off a team to have it and continue and build on , all agree on the same idea then move forward .
