Syrian civil war

Ive been following developments over there as i have friends working in Turkey. Seems to be hotting up a bit on the border with Syria, with fighters moved into the area.

If it ends up with a full on fight (in the air) it would be a real east vs west situation. When you look at what both sides have , I didn't realize Syria was almost 100% Russian supplied and Turkey U.S supplied. Im not sure how the training lines up , but i think it would be in favor of turkey.

Fingers crossed it wont escalate , but its not looking to good.

Every War in the region , Syria has always been at the forefront - the nutters on the block .. come the so called educated to the pitch fork farmers then stir in the 'pot' then add the Syrian Govt and the final ingredient the real extremists Alia's and then all hell is going to break loose .. since there has not been a major war outside their borders for the last couple of years they get restless ... then 'whammo' they then go off and do it to themselves .

History repeating again .. and again and .. well , we will see ..... all this religious JIBBER JIBBER .. screams for help , have your back turned then BOOM .

Syria have already recently shot down a Turkish fighter (crew lost) so they are certainly capable. But for the most part, I'd agree, that the airforces equipped with US equipment will be the one coming out on top.
I just hope for the sake of the people in Syria that is comes to an end soon.

It's worth noting that there are essentially four main sides to this conflict in regard to direct action:

1. Turkish government
2. Syrian government (Assad regime)
3. Free Syrian Army (original, secular rebels against Assad)
4. Misc Jihadi groups (supporting the rebels but for fundamentalist causes that the FSA and most original rebels don't agree with)

This means that the Turks, FSA, and Jihadis all are going against the Assad government, but the FSA is also pretty much against the Jihadis as well.

In addition to the above, various sides are obtaining weapons from Iran, Russia, (an attempt by North Korea too), the US, and other NATO members, depending on the faction/side.

The loose lies of Governments , the different sides , the religious and the armed ... in a western society you don't walk every shouldering an AK-47/74 - M-16 or any such weapon on the corner street , law and rule has never been enforced , compare the New Zealand politics and policy , the recent lies .. and people vote them in .. the entire country of simpletons (sheep) keep returning to reply and vote again ..... spose.... least here you cannot hangout on your local corner with a automatic weapon ... BUGGER!

Note also that the Syrians have reportedly moved their various stockpiles of chemical (possibly biological?) weapons so that they are "more secure". However, speculation is three-fold: 1) The Assad regime is considering using them on "the rebels" (all factions included, maybe even Turkey if push comes to shove) 2) The Assad regime may deliberately provoke Israel so that attention is diverted, and since Syria is already on a full-out war footing, speculation is that the Assad regime may instruct the military to wrest control of the Golan from Israel, backing up their move with whatever chemical / biological weapons they have. And 3) The Assad regime may "accidentally have stolen" a number of chem / bio weapons by Hizbullah (who control southern Lebanon) and "allow" them to create the diversion of attacking northern Israel. It's worth noting that the Israelis have stepped up their northern preparedness to a high, active level, and they are making sure that all residents, especially in the north, have their gas masks sorted.

I note that there is also an unconfirmed (and "officially denied") report that the pilots from the Turkish jet that was shot down by Assad regime forces survived the bail and were executed after discussions between Damascus and Moscow on the matter (and the bodies then dumped in the sea in a plausible place). It would be all but impossible to verify this story, but the way the information has been reported leads me to believe that it's certainly plausible, and I put a high degree of confidence on it being accurate.

I have a client whose husband's family live in Syria. I can't post much in the way of detail about their circumstances so as not to expose them to any further risk than they already face each day, but it's certainly been illuminating hearing about how life is for the "people on the street" in Syria over the last 6-odd months. It's certainly illustrated to me how far removed the citizens of a country can be from the position of the government who rules their country.
