Not surprised you don't know it well, it isn't very big, about the size of the South Island. A similar population to NZ, if you compare England in 1600 and NZ in 2012. I think their population has increased since then, though, which might explain the record sales figures...
I do love the Milford screenshots, there's a lot of work gone into it to make it look like NZ. I was hoping that they'd get some good use out of the NZ vegetation which came with FTX NZ, and they certainly have here. The preview of Queenstown looked a long way from completion, so I wasn't expecting it this year.
I watched an old (as old as me!) documentary on Milford, which gives a nice history of the area. Here it is on Ziln.

Texture for the complete world. I think, this is a perfect way, to kill the FSX, because of texture-conflicts with a lot of other addons.
The weird across entire spectrum of scenery packages most all worked together , one complemented the other but for Orbx they elevations change so making every other addons - airports the primary due to the realistic details or one will not work with O - not sure about the England airport sets but to me make sense to an area coverage work with all extra packages .

I only have NZSI (to date). Having traveled the length and breadth of the island more times than I care to recount during the past 30 years I am more than satisfied with the Orbx treatment of the Mainland.QUOTE... I have no intention ... to install ORBX-Legoland-UK...[/quote]
Why is there such antithesis towards Orbx products? Why do simmers delight in these derogatory putdowns? Is it "tall poppy" syndrome? Enquiring minds would like to know.Regards,

I believe its the "tall poppy" that is smoked .. same argument was this time last year , fact is most spent dollars to suit the RealNZ .. only thing that caused the issue's was the divide of levels .. honestly i really don't understand why these were pushed up ... you get it a bissness ... rule always look after your custom .. been ideal had they blend all together .. it would have allied many ... but now requires patchs or new builds
'Tall poppies" yes indeed .. they have been on a higher elevation..... NO DRUG was smoked on this forum !

There is in fact a good range of opinions on Orbx in the various related threads, I guess that one of the reasons why some opinions are negative is that this is one place that people CAN express them. As far as I can see, there are two broad categories of complaints -- first there are those who didn't get what they expected from their Orbx purchase, which goes for any product which comes with so much hype. Every time there's a new release, there is a new influx of these folk. The other group -- smaller but a lot more vocal -- are those who feel that they've been mistreated in some way. These folk tend to take a lot more liberties here, with negative comments for their own sake. That's not ideal, but it does give them an outlet, provided they don't go too far.Last edited by toprob on Sun Dec 30, 2012 3:47 pm, edited 1 time in total.

I can't speak for others, but for myself, I was initially interested in Orbx stuff (some time ago now, pre anything they did for NZ). I think 3 things happened that turned my opinion of them negative:
1) When I tried their free Tasmania scenery, which as far as I remember was supposed to be a free release of the actual product as a lost-leader to "encourage" people to buy other Orbx stuff, I was sorely disappointed at how incredibly inaccurate it was in many ways. Not that I know Tasmania well at all, but it was obvious as I flew around that little work had been done on accuracy bar the main airport (which was very good), and I think that sucks: one only spends a small amount of time at an airport, and there was plenty of hype floating about at how "fantastic" Tasmania looked. Was it better than default? Of course: that would be hard NOT to do. Did it come anywhere near the hype (beyond the single detailed airport)? No.
2) I've seen the way Orbx stomp all over people with big old boots. Sure, there are those that have been rude or otherwise less than diplomatic in their forum language, but I followed a couple of interesting threads a year or so back where the Orbx people basically blasted some guy (who in my opinion was being very reasonable) then terminated the thread. I also had the same experience myself trying to get some answers. The overall resulting impression? Orbx have no interest in dealing with any real constructive criticism and work hard to project a controlled, "scrubbed" image of themselves. One could call this their prerogative or good business practice. I don't. It smacks of strong arrogance and ivory tower syndrome.
3) Somehow Orbx, despite their observed Apple-esque "our way or the highway" attitudes, and despite that while their "detailed" spot-scenery is good their general stuff often is very mediocre, has garnered a small army of devotees who carry their banner almost as efficiently and ruthlessly as the Apple cult followers. This in turn leads to others having to change THEIR scenery in order to accommodate Orbx. This, for me, is unacceptable.
And so there are the 3 key reasons why my opinion of Orbx is largely negative. Yes, they do SOME good (limited) work. But their observed attitude over time is one that I cannot stomach. So no, for me it's not tall poppies: it's profuse stinging nettles...

Personally I love it - I didn't realise there was so much hatred of OrbX until I started reading some of these threads the last few days! I guess it comes down to what you want in the sim, but for me it's the most realistic scenery for NZ I've seen yet (apart from photo sceneries of course) and I do fly over the real deal on a daily basis so I think I'm as well placed to comment as anyone. The object placement isn't quite as in depth as VLC, but the overall effect is much more naturalistic, VLC looks very "cluttered" in my humble opinion, which is I suppose primarily Microsoft's fault for providing such average scenery textures to work with in the first place!
