Postby Mith18 » Tue Jan 29, 2013 11:34 pm

Anybody met the chap in real life? From his youtube Healthy Bastards videos, he seems like a real down to earth funny guy whose a pilot and a Dr.
Planning on getting a medical with him on either the 7th or 14th of Feb.

Unfortunately his son passed away last year but Dave is alive and kicking. He's one of those rare individuals who infects people with his crazy sense of humour and easy going take on life. You would never know that he is one of the countries most qualified av med doctors and that he was the air force's leading av med doc some years ago among other things. If you do meet him and he thrusts his hand out (which he will) make sure to tense up before you grab it, his handshakes are a memorable experience...

Yeah I accidentally emailed his son, and asked dave why I didn't get a reply. Felt kinda bad, but not at the same time since his info was still up on the website.
Yeah I'm looking forward to meeting him, I guess he wants to make the $900 worthwhile for ya haha, and since he's the one giving you the medical, you have to put up with him tongue.gif

If you happen to be at Omaka this weekend you will get to meet Dr Dave
Marlborough Aero Club, with sponsorship from Dr Dave’s Healthy Bastards campaign aimed at raising awareness of males’ health issues, are organising the country’s first ever national short take off and landing (STOL) competition on Saturday 2nd February, attracting aviators from across New Zealand with a total cash prize of $2,000.

In a competition where less is more, pilots will compete to take off and land their aircraft in the shortest distance, and precision land on a reference point.

The competition will be held from 12 noon on Saturday 2nd February. Visiting pilots and their aircraft will compete throughout the day culminating in a guest band and a spit roast BBQ.

Well I met him, and he passed me for my Class 1 Medical biggrin.gif

Awesome bloke, He was telling me about what he was doing the day before my medical, he was up at some ungodly hour of the morning, 5am or so, flying down around mount cook, up in the air for 9 hours, and didn’t stop until about 9 that night, he just keeps going and going and going, because he loves it that much. He also said to me “Aviation is a tough business, but I’ve never seen a pilot who REALLY wanted a job, fail.â€￾

And yes I will remember that handshake smile.gif
