Postby whirlybird » Thu Jan 31, 2013 3:00 pm

Hi Guys sorry to post another computer topic but I couldn't find one for Macs specifically that answered my questions.

I have to upgrade my computer for the freelance work I do and just wondering how these Specs would stack up against FSX
Im hoping I can run it smoothly with addons etc.

27" Imac
ATI Radeon HD 5670 512mb
3.06 Core 2 Duo
4gb Ram
1TB HDD 7200 ATA

Will run Windows XP Boot camped.

Another PC? I have a macbook at the moment which runs FSX pretty good in boot camp.
Its running 2ghz duo 2gb ram and 256 virtual graphics.
Then I use a macbook pro for work things but need a bigger screen etc so going for a iMac.

So getting an iMac regardless just want to know if those specs will be enough....

It'll be ok ... but XP/4GB/3GHz aren't exactly top spec these days. I've just gone from XP/4GB/3GHz Intel config to Win7(64b)/8GB/3.7GHz and its made a HUGE difference.
Sounds like Win7 not supported under BootCamp?

i don't think that it will run addons very well but it should run out of the box well enough (don't quote me on that).

XP is fine yeah, but to be honest Win7 isn't that different UI wise so you'd hardly notice the change, esp if you're mostly booting windows just to run FSX.
One big advantage of running Win7/64bit over XP, if you can slap another 4GB into that iMac, is that you leave some headroom memory wise to run stuff other than FSX. With XP/32bit (which I assume you have now) your stuck with 4GB and most of that consumed by FSX alone.

I read somewhere on this forum that FSX only used 4GB of RAM? Although, having 8GB, it still gives your comp 4GB to do what it pleases.

I can run FSX on my MacBook Pro from 2008 so I think that will be fine. Just need to get the right balance with the settings and if you have a choice I would use Win7 instead of XP.
